This dissertation analyses the tension of Chinese modern poetic drama.In the exordium,firstly define and interpret the literary phenomenon of "tension", "poetic drama" carefully. Meanwhile,talk about the historical evolution of Chinese modern poetic drama.Look back and expound the historical and present research situation of Chinese modern poetic drama. The article is divided into five chapters to discuss and research the artistic tension of Chinese modern poetic drama. The first chapter mainly studies the tension of language for Chinese modern poetic drama.The language of Chinese modern poetic drama contains a kind of blend and collision which are traditional and modern, Eastern and Western, elegant and popular. Mainly in three aspects:first, combined tension of language. Based on Chinese modern literary language "hybrid" specialty, it will inevitably lead to the hybridity of different language style and literary style for Chinese modern poetic drama in the specific application. Second, defamiliarization tension of language. Chinese modern poetic drama writers are deeply influenced by the traditional culture, on the other hand, they are deeply affected by the the May Fourth new ideas. Conflicts and contradictions between the new and the old two thoughts are to make Chinese modern poetic drama full heterogeneous color which is the root. The defamiliarization is the concrete art expression technique. The language of defamiliarization makes the text collide and conflict on different levels,which have a fierce confrontation,especially with the traditional aesthetic concept. This process is accompanied by the constant burst of artistic tension. Third, rhetorical tension of language. The art of rhetoric shows the language’s beauty, a kind of implicit beauty and tortuous beauty.lt is to make the aesthetic object, not all that in front of the audience or reader, but reservations, the distance producing beauty. The implicit beauty of language comes from the application of rhetoric. This is the rejection of the linear mood and it is the foundation to realize the rational thinking of the poetic drama.It cause tension to appear in the process of perceptual and rational integration.This kind of rhetorics manly have exaggeration, fold around (Wan Qu) and symbol.The second chapter mainly researches the tension of image for Chinese modern poetic drama. The image application also makes Chinese modern poetic drama rich artistic tension. The tension of image for Chinese modern poetic drama mainly manifests in three aspects. One is the trait tension of image. The images of tension have the characteristics of objectivity, metaphor and archetype. The characteristic of objectivity represents the "objective correlative" and "impersonal". Above poetic ideas are not to deny the personality and sensibility, but stress to express sensibility and emotion objectively and indirectly,which lay the foundation for the author picking up the reason again. Metaphorical features refer to the interaction between the signifier and the signified. This kind of interaction is an important source of tension for Chinese modern poetic drama. The prototype character shows the evolutional tension for the prototype image. It is a blend and collision for the symbol of Oriental myth and the symbol of the Western myth. After the interaction, the original prototype image has been given a new trait.The second is the tension of image types. The image corresponding objective images and affair images are different. After division, the type of image must be varied. Such as divide the defamiliarization image from the cognitive perspective, division natural image from the content angle,division the surreal image from the angle of psychology. Different types of images are beyond the limit of the rules or cognition to the application of image art. This innovation, subversion and confrontation inspire the tension of Chinese modern poetic drama.The third is the combined tension of image.Image combination in the art of poetic drama is the most common and most expressive art construction method. With an important proposition of Gestalt psychology-the overall although consist of parts, it is not equal to the parts and fit. It mainly manifests collection tension for dense images, tied tension for unequal image and confrontation tension for conflicting images. The third chapter focuses on the tension of paradox for Chinese modern poetic drama. The paradox is introduced into from the category of logic and philosophy to the category of poetics and literature, and it is payed more attention beginning with Anglo American New Criticism. Anglo American New Criticism discusses and studies the paradox which is not an absolute paradox (logical paradox and narrow paradox) but a generalized paradox. The paradox that they have been concerned about and advocated covers many aspects, such as literature, poetics, aesthetics and so on. "Paradox" is the same as the "tension" in Anglo American New Criticism there.Because its connotation is constantly expanding and developing.The paradox makes the language structure of Chinese modern poetic drama form two or more levels. "Is" is the "anti"and "anti" is the "is".It makes Chinese modern poetic drama have the typical characteristics of paradox. In this process, the artistic tension is created. The paradoxical tension of Chinese modern poetic drama performances in three aspects:irony paradoxical tension, enantiosis paradoxical tension and ambiguity paradoxical tension.The fourth chapter mainly concerns with the tension of structure for Chinese modern poetic drama. Poetic drama is the new literary genre of poetry and drama combined.Therefore, the structure of poetic drama must not only have characteristics of poetry but also has characteristics of drama. The leading structure of Chinese modern poetic drama is different from a variety of dramatic structure for modern drama. The core layout of the full text is the author’s emotion, sensibility and thought. Therefore,the tension of structure for Chinese modern poetic drama is mainly manifested as the tension of emotional structure, the tension of mental structure and the tension of thinking structure.The fifth chapter mainly studies the tension of literary style for Chinese modern poetic drama. The style we discussed is closely related to literature. That is the style of literary stylistics. It is a kind of theory on the narrow sense of style (literary style) and it is the combination of linguistics and literature. Chinese modern poetic drama is a kind of new literary style. Its style is different from the new poetry and different from the modern drama,with distinct uniqueness and innovation. The characteristic of the drama is the putting on a show and the characteristic of the poetry is the representation. The formation and development of Chinese modern poetic drama is actually a process of poetry and drama from opposition to unification. In this process, the new literary style -poetic drama,not only has the representation (lyric) of poetry characteristics but have the effect (putting on a show) of drama characteristics.The tension of literary style for Chinese modern poetic drama is mainly manifested three aspects:first,the collision of poetry and drama; Second,the stylistic variations of poetry and drama; Third, the perspective transformation of the poetry and drama.
