In the 1990s,some scholars proposed to establish a "Modern Zen Drama" on the model of Gao Xingjian's late works.In recent years,this assumption is proved to be true by many innovative practice in drama on the stage.However,the academic research in this field is relatively backward,few noticed that a kind of drama with the unique ethos has been emerged.Guo Shixing is a famous contemporary playwright,he flies his own colors in the whole history of Chinese drama,and the "Trilogy of idle people" has been performed repeatedly both at home and abroad.Many scholars have analyzed them from multiple perspectives,but rarely looked at them from the perspective of Zen aesthetics.Although no obvious Zen elements appeared in the three plays,the lingering charm and significance of Zen throughout.To the author's mind,that if "Modern Zen Drama" needs to be set up,the"Trilogy" with natural and distant trait would provide a more appropriate proof than Gao's late works.This paper is divided into four chapters to explain.In the introduction genre,the first part,the author introduces the background and significance of this topic,combs the current research status of modern Zen drama and"Trilogy",and set the course of this thesis.The second part is the first chapter,the author will expand on the question of"what is the Modern Zen Drama",and then answer the questions of where it comes from,what are the examples of "Modern Zen Drama",the difference between it and the "Buddhism drama" fell under the religion category,the embodiment of its modernity,and the aesthetic characteristics that it possesses.The third part,the big picture,contains the second the third chapter.The second chapter is based on the conclusion of the first,and goes on analyzing the works from two aspects:artistic features and the artistic technique.In this chapter,according to discuss each play,the author makes a conclusion that the "Trilogy" has three artistic features:emphasizing the intuitive inner experience;hierarchical structure of the meta-consciousness;a transcendental care in people's spiritual destination.The third chapter all revolves around what methods guide to "Trilogy" shows the characteristics above.By analyzing the content and characteristics of the Zen Koan,the author concluded that "Trilogy" has three writing methods of script:a dualistic paradox in plot;building character relations by negation and reversal;building multiple world images by using symbolic code.In the last part,the author sums up the artistic characteristics of the "Modern Zen Drama" which is represented by "Trilogy of idle people",and makes a summary in view of the foregoing.
