A Study On Semantic Fuzziness Of Japanese

Semantic fuzziness is the natural attribute of language, and it exists in every aspects of language, which plays very important role in cognition and communication of human society. This thesis explored the generative mechanism and existing modes of Japanese semantic fuzziness by using the method of theoretical foundation investigation, theoretical system building and theoretical analysis in the filed of linguistics, linguistic philosophy, cognitive science, sociology and psychic, etc.. Semantic fuzziness study proceeds under the framework of general linguistics owing to the lack of integrity at present.This thesis revealed the philosophic origins of semantic fuzziness and typologically analyzed the semantic fuzziness of Japanese expression by examined the generative mechanism and existing modes in the part of theoretical foundation investigation. While in the part of theoretical system building, it integrated relevant definitions and concepts of semantic fuzziness in different subject such as pragmatics and semantics to discover the external differences and inner link of them. Moreover, it proposed the research method and built the framework of semantic fuzziness tentatively, emphasized the necessity of studying semantic fuzziness as an independent discipline.This thesis further explained the generative mechanism and existing modes of semantic fuzziness in both fields of pragmatics and semantics in its theoretical analysis part. It also searched for the substantive characteristics of semantic fuzziness especially the Japanese semantic fuzziness from the perspective of semantic domain, and analyzed the relationship between correlations in human communicative activity and the semantic fuzziness based on relevance theory from the perspective of pragmatics. Afterwards, it induced the characteristics of semantic fuzziness at pragmatic level, discussed the production and development of grammaticalization, the inner link between grammaticalization and semantic fuzziness, and summarized the general law of development of language at large. Furthermore, the above research conclusions could use as explanations for some linguistic phenomenon such as enantiosemy, figuration, grammaticalization, speech act and subjectivity of communication participants and the like. Last but not least, this thesis construed hairyo expression of Japanese and indirect speech act by analyzing semantic fuzziness in Japanese, discovered cognitive style, culture formation and characteristics of communicative activity of Japanese society.This thesis attempted to examine the theoretical basis of semantic fuzziness, build a research system of semantic fuzziness, meanwhile solve the problems exists in daily expressions so as to make a contribution to Japanese semantic fuzziness study.
