Research On Li Chao-huan,patriot And Democratic Personage

Li Zhao-huan was one of the outstanding patriotic democrats in modern China.His life experienced from the late Qing Dynasty, Northern Warlords Government,Nanjing National Government to the period of People’s Republic of China. And he was served as permanent secretary of Ministry of Railways of Nanjing National government, the principal of Jiaotong University, the chairman of International Research Party, Shanghai branch president of Sino-Soviet Cultural Association, the chairman of China National Association of Chinese Young Men’s Christian Association, the vice-chairman of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Political Consultative Conference successively, which made him the deserved person to be memorialized and researched.The frustrations and misfortunes of Li Zhao-huan’s whole life made it quite amazing. Li contacted with progressive ideas early and took part in the revolutionary when his qualification to study abroad was cancelled for no reason by Qing Dynasty,which made him fight tenaciously and travel across the oceans eventually. He has authored 《The Revolutionary Policy of Zhongshan》 and 《Chinese Kuomintang Policy》to explore one path of salvaging the country and the nation. He has served in the Nanjing National Government Ministry of Railways but then devoted himself to education because he had no willing to develop the official career anymore in that age.He became the principal of Jiaotong University and this school reached its “golden age” owing to the idea on all-inclusion and aggressive reform. Li participated in the organization of several important groups at that time because of his unique social sense of mission and sense of responsibility. There was no doubt that he had a lot of achievements on several aspects, such as international exchange, social services,religious charity. He choosed to stay in China and realize his dream of the patriotism and powerful nation in his late life. Li’s life experience was true portrayal of modern historical figures taking part in revolution, politics, education, and social activities,which has a certain meaning.In this work, we analyzed Li Zhao-huan’s personal growth background firstly.Secondly, we would discuss his activities on the revolution and construction combining with the characteristics of the times. And his works would be compared with Dai Jitao’s. Li pioneered the “golden age” of Jiaotong University because of his mature idea of education, which made him brilliant achievements. That school timewas the peak period of his life. He also had his own patrioticsentiment and national self-confidence. Li Zhao-huan had busy social activities of the Republic of China and formed his own idea after he served a number of important social functions. In 1949,Li choosed to move to new China and actively participated in the construction of socialism and the work of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference to keep on carring forward the spirit of Sun Zhongshan.Li Zhao-huan was an outstanding patriot, staunch democrat, genuine socialist and faithful follower of Sun Zhongshan. So he can seize the opportunity of the times and constantly changed his roles in the violent social changes of modern China. He was keeping pace with the times and courageously forging ahead to display their talents on the stage of history in spite of the troubles appeared from time to time. His life trajectory on revolution, politics, education, and social activities was miniature of elite’s activities in the development of modern Chinese Society. His excitement and radicalness, hesitation and helplessness were the reflection of the times.
