Imagery is the focus in Chinese and Western poetry, but research on natural imagery is seldom in Chinese new poetry. As nature becoming poetic, natural imagery is concerned. However, being based on ecoliterature, the research on it lacks sufficient close reading, just from sociology, ethnics and anthropology, dosen’t refer to poetics, technique and modern realization of poems. In this thesis, the author makes a comparative study, mutual reflection of literature and history and social criticism on the natural imagery of Chinese new poetry after 1949, finds the development, change.Natural imagery, as the focus of this dissertation and poetic theory experienced from metaphysics to western imagery poetics. The study on imagery is not only how poets describes nature, but also how they express their youwei by nature, and how differences and cultural choice are formed, how modern experience and realization are developed, and new recognization of tradition. On research on natural imagery of modern poetry, the author also disscusses way of thinking, emotional expressing, rhetoric, the modern sense and critical consciousness.Focusing on natural imagery, this paper will be divided into four parts:metaphor, ethical token, poetic variation and scenery.In first chapter, the author analyses poetic metaphor from 1949 to 1976 and political writing. Main natural imagery highlights political metaphor and national attributes. Potential writing pay attention to spirit of suspicion and struggle and symbol of misery. Especilly Niu Han and Mu Dan’s poems are full of proactive consciousness in courage and criticism.In second chapter, the author analyzes historical materials of natural imagery of Today Group’s poems and study the texts in the early1980s, gets the conclusion that nature and human is the theme, nature and democracy are combined, rebuilding the ethics, imagery personalization and division of emotional expressing are characteristics, Gu Cheng and Duoduo volunteer to reform in perceptualizing and creation.In third chapter, the author studies different way of dealing with languages and technique of spoken word poetry, new country poems and west poems, which are themed by modern transformation of natural verbellcon, homesickness, pastoral memory and local experience. Lv De’an, Han Dong, Haizi, Changyao, Shen Wei give the way to think about it.In chapter four, the author discusses modern perception and criticism of natural imagery of modern poems from new century, expanding the whole paper and creating style further. She takes Lei Pingyang, Yang Jian, Gao Chunlin and Chen Xianfa’s poems that have suffering consciousness and dirge color as example to research the difference, Sun Wenbo, Sangke, Quanzi’s poems that have language introspection consciousness to distinguish, Yashi, Lei Wuling, Jiang Hao, and Li Sen’s poems that have pure perception on scenery to imagine further.In summary, the evolvement process contains the metaphor of breaking political ideology, conforms modern connection between nature and human and modern consciousness. The transformation originated in political criticism consciousness, reopening of humanism, reflection of the spirit of classical landscape and establishment of perception of modern scenery. It not only refers to natural theme in poetry, but also lyrical subject, language tactics, device of cognition. Many poems, especially after 1980s, which bring new elements and view to Chinese poems by poetic practice, has important values and enlightening significance.
