The objective of this study was to explore the synthesis of new personalized decorative veneer through combining with pigment via watermark painting craft. The deep research of the preparation technology and an analysis of the mechanism of the important performance were discussed. Watermark painting was painted based on oil-water separation principle, which veneer was dyed with mineral pigment, unlike previous dyeing. This kind of technique produced a kind of adornment effect different from the traditional process. This design with originality and uniqueness provided a new exploration model for customized services and personalized design, also more adapt to the current changing trend of the development of science and information technology. Its products could be used for floor, metope, local adornment, small products, gifts, furniture, home furnishings and the different aspects. At present, the research at home and abroad was almost blank, and few available references were given for research, so no matter in theoretical significance and practical value, this research had the very big development of space and potential. This study choose bright color tree-species of poplar, white maple and white pine as specimens, from the following several aspects of the existing pigment composition, preparation technology, surface effect, influence factors, the wear resistance of the specimens, light fastness, color cover degree, color depth, and the analysis of the specimen surface free energy, energy spectrum analysis under SEM, infrared spectroscopy, Raman analysis and so on, finally the main conclusions and the results are as follows:(1)Preparation of test results concluded the optimum matching parameters of dra wing liquid and the basic technological process. The ratio of drawing liquid parameters for 8 to 10 g powder with 1000 ml water, 180° heating 3-5min, cooling 3-4h. In the te stprocess it was found that veneer grinding processing, draw liquid cooling sufficiently in advance, fully ventilated dry, drawing out with ordinary paper adsorption liquid surface residual pigment, the several key links and steps, can greatly optimize the technolog ical process, and improve the quality of the process.(2) The wear-resisting performance of dyed specimens was better. After 3 times of 400 mesh sand paper burnishing, all △ E*ab values are less than 16, it was found a certain degree of fade, but not very serious. In addition, compared with un-polishing specimens, the wear-resisting performance of polishing specimens was greatly increased. Burnishing removed the burr, rust, oil, dirt and formation of the oxide layer of the veneer in advance, it greatly enhanced the adhesion on the specimens.(3) The radiation experiment under the xenon light attenuation was carried out, the color matching instrument measured the color optical index on the surface of the specimens before and after 100 h, the results showed that the light fastness of this way had certain relations with tree species, the light fastness of the fine-grained straight trees was better. Among poplar, white maple and white pine, the light fastness of white maple was best. Secondly, compared with previous dyestuff dyeing, the light fastness of this mode by mineral pigment was better than the former. In addition, after 100 h dyed specimens’ chromaticity index had a yellow green trend, the value △ E*ab of the red, yellow and blue specimens was respectively 8.07, 6.77, 12.70, but yellow △ E*ab was only 6.77, its light fastness was best.(4) Infrared spectrum(FTIR) analysis results showed that this way of dyeing, in the process of light, had a certain fade, the main reason was the oxidation of pigment firstly, followed by veneer’s oxidation discoloration. In the process of the photochromic, the three peaks of the un-dyed specimens was orderly carbon oxygen single bond C-OH(1050 cm-1), C=O bond(1740 cm-1) and CH button(2900-3400cm-1) after light. The wave for C = O(1720-1740- cm-1) of the dyed specimens fluctuated obviously before and after illumination, in the wave area, it was just right to the three green inorganic pigment molecules oxide area. In the photochromic process, the changes of chemical composition of dyed specimens had taken place. The oxidation of the pigment was obvious than the wood veneer.(5) Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) observation combined with spectral eleme nt analysis results showed that by drawing techniques decoration veneer, watermark wasa kind of wood surface color, yellow layer depth of 40 microns, red of 140 microns, blue of150 microns and yellow layer minimum depth of staining.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) results showed that yellow pigment catheter of specimens were basicly covered, and the red and blue pigments catheters were cov ered in only a small area. This suggested that the yellow paint coverage was best.Paint on the surface of the veneer, dispersion degree and pigment grinding fine degree had a direct relationship.(6) Contact angle test and surface free energy analysis showed that poplar, white maple and white pine specimens after dyeing, no matter polar liquid or nonpolar liquids, appeared an obvious hydrophobic properties. The contact angle of white maple was lower than the white pine and poplar. In addition, the surface free energy of the three specimens were less than un-dyed specimens, among specimens, the surface free energy of the white maple was higher than white pine and poplar. Smaller contact angle was, surface free energy was bigger, it was conducive to the spread of the paint on the specimens’ surface, to a certain extent, it improved the degree of pigment dispersion and enhanced the adhesion degree.(7) Parsing through the dyeing process and pattern formation way, it was found the computer aided drawing process improved the technological process also for the future and constructive suggestions were put forward.
