As one of the most important composers of the West in twentieth Century, Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951) is worthy of attention, and his contribution and position can not be ignored. He was born in the late period of European Romanticism, and grew up in the first half of the twentieth Century to the European music tradition and to the evolution of modern music style. As a loyal defender of German and Austrian music tradition, his music creation, music theory and music teaching are not out of German and Austrian music of his predecessors effect. He is a modern music composer who rooted in the "traditional".As a representative of the new Vienna School, he worked in the music language innovation and evolution. With his unique creative spirit and unremitting efforts, he broke through the shackles of functional and long, so that it entered into the period of free and atonal music. In the continuous exploration and thinking, Schoenberg perfected the twelve tone music composition method, rebuilt the pitch organization system, which has a great impact on the development of western music throughout the twentieth Century. His music not only has a very close relationship with the tradition, but also has many new ideas and techniques. It has built a very good bridge between tradition and modern. He is different from most of the composer. As a theorist, his theory of cultivation and academic contribution to help his music has a very systematic and overall concept of creation.The perfect combination of formal procedures, concepts and forms, not only enhance the artistic value of his music creation, but also enrich its aesthetic significance.This paper "Study on the Pitch Materials and Structural Forms of Schoenberg’Four String Quartets" selects Schoenberg’s Four String Quartets as the research object. From the string quartet, which is a classic of the genre of through on Four String Quartet music text more comprehensive form of music, composing technology of case analysis, analogy research, this article explores the works in pitch materials and structure morphology of personalized treatment and consistency of the chain. The four string quartets were placed in the composer and two important creative period, namely "tonal music period" and "twelve tone music period."And the composer of the second period of creation, namely "the period of free and tonal music", not only for the creation of a string quartet, or even completely didn’t relate to the creation of any string genre. In view of these problems, this paper will also work in the specific historical period to carry on analysis and research in the course of the study.This paper in order to reveal the evolution of Schoenberg personalized musical language and style of creation, and clear the significance of the four and four String Quartet in the creative process in the position of composer. Meanwhile, from an aesthetic and historical point of view, the structural thinking of the composer and the logical relationship between the elements of the structure of the music on this basis are sort, enhance, promoted and summarized.At the same time, the paper also discusses the deeper connotation and implication of these four works in the concept and form.This paper consists of introduction, text and conclusion. In the introduction, the author briefly discussed the creation of Schoenberg’s historical background, and the origin and significance of this thesis topic, and then concluded a general topic review of research status between local and abroad.The main body contains six chapters. The first three chapters conduct microanalysis on the pitch and its organization of Schoenberg’s four string quartets consisting of horizontal pitch, longitudinal pitch and logical organization. The fourth and fifth chapter conduct the macro investigation on the structure of Schoenberg’s four string quarterts, mainly discussing the development and features of structure. The sixth chapter focuses on the changes on aesthetic and musical ideology of Schoenberg’s four string quartets. With the detailed description of those six chapters, we can get the detail of the Pitch Materials and Structural Forms of Schoenberg’Four String Quartets, and also can get the deep and comprehensive understanding of the development of Schoenberg’s musical idea and forms as well as its artistic value in musical history.At the end of the paper, it illustrates the development and evolution of Schoenberg’s composing techniques, and the overall evaluation of Schoenberg Quartet of summary description. Meanwhile, it comes up with the thesis for research’s contributions and the extend of future possibilities of the Schoenberg.
