The Research Of Painting Arts About Nguyen Tu Nghiem

Ruan Si Yan(Nguyen Tu Nghiem), who is one of the greatest modern painters of Vietnam, was born in 1922. He was studying painting in Ecole Superieure des Beauxux-Arts d’Indochine from 1941 to 1946. He is a generalist and very accomplished in lacquer painting, oil painting and gouache. He created a unique art syle which is different compared with the previous. His idea that labor creates art was valued by everyone. People cannot deny that Ruan Si Yan has respected art morality and that his works have made a great contribution to Vietnam modern art.This paper is based on the previous researches and researches of Ruan Si Yan’s works. I investigated and studied the overall appearance and artistic style of Ruan Siyan’s paintings.This paper has four parts:Firstly, according to the social background and living environment, I analysed the creative process and the source of thoughts, which actually is discussing that how his style formed and evolved. From his early works, I studied how Ruan Si Yan’s original painting style formed. And according to his social background and learning environment, I analysed his painting style. In the later stage, the art schools have Vietnam painter as professors. Looking from the country’s social and cultural background, especially the marginalised period and the limitation of the literati class movement, I analysed the subjective reasons of Ruan Siyan’s creation of this period. He donated all his enthusiasm into the folk art.Secondly, through the process of artistic creation, Ruan Si Yan has tried a lot of different subjects, such as "Socialist Realism", "the Chinese Zodiac", and "Giong", "Autumn River’s Portrait” which eulogize the national heroes. his works show the different materials and styles. For example: in the " Socialist Realism ", he digged deeply into the life of labor people. In “the Chinese Zodiac”, Ruan Si Yan’s painting technique transformed, and his works not only on behalf of the meaning of etiquette, more is the worship of fengshui. About “Giong”, Ruan Si Yan created a national hero and expressed his patriotism with stereo style. As for " Autumn River’s Portrait”, it represents the Vietnamese women’s apparent characters and their perfect images, which are virtue, tolerance, the hard work and effort.Thirdly, Lacquer painting “ the Ancient Dance” is Ruan Si Yan’s most characteristic work. So in this paper, I analysed Ruan Si Yan’s modelling language features according to “the ancient dance”, such as: composition, shape and line, color and so on.At last, I summarized various evaluations to Ruan Si Yan’s art, and I analyzed the effect of his art, making a solid foundation for younger painters to research on “the Ancient Dance”, which provides the prerequisite for the development of contemporary painting of Vietnam. There are some new ideas, for example: What inflence of "the Ancient Dance" has to the young painters? As a junior, what method should we use? These studies affect the creation and the development of Vietnam modern art directly. Especially with the impact of foreign cultures and of different types of paintings, how can we keep our own nature and nationality.Ruan Si Yan’s artistic achievement enriches the content of the Vietnamese art modernity, which has epoch-making significance. His rich creation achievement and thought theories are huge treasure of reference and the nation development, which is worth our study and research forever.
