Song Wen Xian Gong HuFalu( HuFalu for short) is anthology of Song Lian’s Buddhism works. HuFalu was very influential in Ming and Qing Dynasties. With regarding to the 39 tower inscriptions important historical data value, therefore HuFalu is called ChuanDenglu and regarded as a history of Buddhist monks.As a famous scholar and official in the early Ming Dynasty, Song Lian played a protective and supportive role for Buddhism and created numerous Buddhist works, so he became a representative in the process of interaction of Confucian and Buddha during the Yuan and Ming Dynasties. Researching HuFalu, is to systematically review Song Lian’s Buddhist works, discuss Song Lian’s acceptation and promotion of Buddhism, know the development of Buddhism during the Yuan and Ming Dynasties and confirm the documentation value of HuFalu.The structure of the dissertation includes introduction, five chapters, and appendix. Four points were included in the introduction. First is the explanation the origin. Second is the review of the achievements related to this research in recent 30 years, and the analysis of the research status of HuFalu. Third, roughly defines the research scope and purpose of this article. Fourth, the innovation of this article.The first chapter discussed editing and revising and printing of HuFalu.The book is anthology of Song Lian Buddhism writings and was published by Song Lian’s later generations. so this paper introduces the book formation in the first section. Song Lian created a large number of Buddhism articles, HuFalu was first complied by eminent monk Yun Xi Lian Chi in the period of Emperor Wangli of Ming Dynasty, and he gathered Buddhist works of Song Lian and complied them into a book named Huang Ming HuFalu. In the period of Emperor Tianqi of Ming Dynasty, according to the Xun Xi HuFalu, Qian Qian-yi revised it and renamed it Song Wen Xian Gong HuFalu. Eminent monk Han Shan assisted Qian Qian-yi, and his contribution cannot be left unrecognized. HuFalu has many editions due to its huge influence, so the second section combed the version of the book. JiaXing tripitaka version of Ming Dynasty was the earliest version till today we can see. In addition, Japan HeKe version was a revised copy of JiaXing version, and SunShi version in the period of the Republic of China. HuFalu was recorded by many historical literatures, such as Bibliography of Qian QingTang, and the third section roughly introduces the entitling, recording and cataloging.Song Lian was confucianist but many Buddhist works had been written.The second chapter, the writing reasons of Song Lian’ s Buddhist works are discussed. The first section mainly introduced the monks who asked Song Lian to write articles for honor and glory in order to inspire generations to follow. Not only the official respectability, academic reputation of Song Lian but also he very glad to write many Buddhist articles. This is a reason that Song Lian finished a large number Buddhist articles. The second section deeply analyzed the writing reason of the Buddhist articles. It was objectively connected reason by the interpersonal relationship. The monks who requested works had what connection with Song Lian. By their relationship between teachers and students, social activities, official relations and countryship geopolitical relations, this is a potential causes which could rational explain why the Buddhist articles writing.The third chapter Song Lian’s Buddhist viewpoint was discussed from HuFaLu. The first section discussed Song Lian’ s various ideas. Song Lian mainly based on Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism also including part. The Confucianism was main part and auxiliary part others. The second section firstly introduced the connections to Song Lian with Buddhism. There are three causes: edifying influence of his teacher Huang Jin, wide acquaintance with monks and advocating Buddhism. The third section specifically analyzed Buddhist thought of Song Lian. Based on the important sectarians involved such as Zen Buddhism, Tiantai Sect, Huayan Sect, Pure Land Sect, etc. this part analyzed Song Lian’s views and judgment on all Buddhist sectarians in the HuFaLu, who expressed his comment a fusion thinking based on BoRuo Emptiness school.The fourth chapter Song Lian’s literary viewpoint was discussed from HuFaLu. It is obvious that the Confucian value standard with SongLian. The first section combed 11 styles in the book which were nearly practicable.Then expounded artistic features of them and exemplifies. The second section expounded Song Lian’s writing attitude with his Buddhist writing. Articles for Buddhist activities are very same to his “Writing Carry Doctrine” viewpoint. Buddhist works play an important role in spreading faith. The third section discussed literary viewpoint through the analysis of HuFalu. Firstly one was Wen Dao theory its main point by literature was used to spread Dao. HuFalu reflected Song Lian’s literary concept. Artical as a carrier, Wen was used to illustrate the Dao. Secondly through HuFalu, narrating conception was explored. Paying attention to narrative was a traditional Chinese historiographer culture. A large number of tower inscription and prefaces of books belong to biography. All of these have the characteristic of history biographical.The fifth chapter discussed the value of HuFalu in Buddhist history. HuFalu was a book recording what actually happened to Buddhist events during Yuan and Ming Dynasties and the tower inscriptions were the first hand material for the later Buddhist biograph or Buddhist history. Many Buddhist works in Ming and Qing Dynasties were based on the HuFalu so the fifth chapter discussed its documentation value. The first section compared with the later Buddhist Historical records to define itself important resource. the second section discussed its factual records was valuable to study Buddhist development in the past.The appedix includes four parts. First, HuFalu ancient version and modern copy. Second, three lost articles in addition to Song Lian complete works. Three, an article named Reply to Song Jing-lian was not included in QianXilu. Four, the list table of Song Lian Buddhist friends.Five,the HuFaLu relates to the monks.
