A Study Of Wang Anyi’s Shanghai Narrative

This dissertation aims at analysis of the internal logic of Wang Anyi’s Shanghai narrative structure from four aspects: narrative perspective, narrative connotation, spiritual space and narrative features. The Shanghai narrative in Wang Anyi’s literary works will be taken as the research object, combined with modernity and modern and contemporary Shanghai literary and cultural history. This dissertation also tries to summarize unique literary experience of Wang Anyi Shanghai narrative by analyzing the cultural connotation of Wang Anyi’s Shanghai narrative.Shanghai is Wang Anyi’s most important resource for literature creation. The writing of Shanghai represents the height of Wang Anyi’s work and Wang Anyi’s Shanghai narrative also embodies the core of her literary and cultural philosophy: The cultural characteristics of Shanghai are emerging from the daily life of ordinary people. The passion for life and high value on individual life as city culture and spirit of Shanghai is reflected by people’s devotion and persistence in daily life. This daily world seems trivial while it contains self-consciousness and self-reliance power. Shanghai itself is also constantly searching for the historic resource of its spiritual and cultural world and its possibility of sustainable development in the context of globalization. The multiple angel of Wang Anyi’s Shanghai narrative is outsiders, residents of the alley, intellectuals and other identities. The unique Shanghai narrative theme is based on the description of daily life in Shanghai and variety of people in Shanghai. It has conducted the urban imagination of Shanghai.
