This research examines the residential patterns and determinants of Taiwanese migrants in Shanghai. The results from this study show that the patterns of Taiwanese family residence affecting their social adaptation, social inclusion, social identity and residential plan. According to the change of public housing policy, the trend of residential segregation of Taiwanese migrants is more basing on the family preference and needs. Taiwanese migrants and immigrants in shanghai, America and Australia had similar personal characteristics, family values, economic status and residential preferences and patterns, and they developed a specific way to settle downTaiwanese migrants in shanghai have their own social network and ethnicity as well. However, most of Taiwanese migrants have maintained the highly connection of their home town and live a Taiwanese lifestyle in Shanghai. The research illustrates how public policy and public services, relationship between Mainland China and Taiwan can affect the residential patterns and social adaptation, social inclusion, social identity and residential plan of Taiwanese migrants in Shanghai.
