The relations between immigrants and local government, between immigrants and local people and between immigrants and their homelands play significant roles in the safety and structure of a nation, a region and even the world. China and India are both world-famous civilized countries with rich natural and human resources. They have the biggest immigrant population in the world and enjoys the greatest investment potential. Therefore, the historical, social, economical and diplomatic relations of the two countries are to be compared from both the government and academic aspects. It is the same case in Southeast Asia. Especially in Malaysia, Burma and Singapore with the biggest Chinese and Indian immigrant population in Southeast Asia. This dissertation aims to explore better development models of immigrants through comparative study on the Chinese and Indian immigration history to Southeast Asia. It focuses on studying the recognition, social organization and functions of the two immigrants in residential countries so as to provide Southeast Asia ethnic group studies with wider sight and richer references. This dissertation even makes effort to promote the international relations and help improve and innovate the governmental policies on immigrants through analyzing their relations with local government, with local people and with their home countries.
