Immigrant integration refers to the progress of mutual identification, combination, adaptation and affection between individuals, groups, individuals and groups, differentcultures of immigrants and registered people. As early as in the1890s, an Americansociologist named park, one of the Chicago’s, started to do research on the life and workof the people from Europe to America. At that time, this kind of research did greatachievement in western countries. In China, with the development of urbanization andpopulation migration in1980s, scholars brought the concept “social integration” to theresearch of immigrants. While it was just the beginning in China. There are more than20%immigrant laborers in Pearl River delta. Taking this areafor example, it will be good to urbanization problem solving and will get some goodthoughts to further research. Localized in the exploratory study and based on populationscience, the paper tries to do a localized study of integration theoretically andempirically. This paper did two periods of study on the immigrants and registered people. Thefirst one investigated immigrants from9cities in Pearl River delta and got1647effective samples. The second period study focused on the residents in Guangzhou,Shenzhen and Dongguan. It got660effective samples of immigrants and748ofregistered people. Besides, it also did individual case interviews to14immigrants and13registered people, the data of which were used to do analysis. With two data fromthis study, the paper uses factor analysis and structural equation model to get acomprehensive index system of population integration. Then, taking the scores ofintegration construction as variables and measuring integration situation of immigrantsand other groups, the paper find out the trend of immigrant integration from the changeof population structure and attitude of registered population. At last, based on theinfluenced factors, the paper incorporates group analysis prospective to discuss theeffect of population, family and structure to different groups.Study mainly shows: First, psychological scale can improve the measurement ofsocial integration. Second, the integration of immigrants needs time and there will be aprocess. Third, take in group research; this is good for deep analysis to social integration.Fourth, when studying integration of different generations, we cannot suppose that theireffect of influences are the same. Compare with intergeneration, age has a moresignificant difference than intergeneration in social integration. Fifth, there is no general contradiction and conflict between registered population and immigrants. The exclusionis different. Sixth, immigrant integration is some kind of alternative integration. Itbelongs to the concept “Multi-way Group Integration”.From the research, we can find that in order to promote the integration ofimmigrants, something should be done as follows: be aware of the importance ofeconomic integration and improve the development of economy;make the chance forcommunication and give psychological directions; pay much more attention to groupdifferences and promote integration; make progress in public welfare and be fare toeveryone; set up some training canters to improve people’s ability; make great use ofthe social organization to improve their consciousness of citizen. This paper also does some creative jobs. Firstly, it systematically constructed andtested the measurement index of social integration. Secondly, it tried to connectdemographic, sociology and psychology. Thirdly, it did a completed integration, including immigrants and registered population. Fourthly, starting with group analysis,it studied around the group. Fifthly, it put forward an idea of“Multi-way GroupIntegration”.However, this paper still has some deficiencies. Firstly, because of limited data, research needs further deep vertical study. Secondly, there are problems of various dataintegration. Thirdly, the study of model is not enough. Fourthly, the conclusion isgeneral, which is not that suitable for other areas. Fifthly, the relationship betweenregistered population and immigrants needs further deep study. Sixthly, with the limitedcultural background of South China, culture integration should be improved. The lastone is that the new concept,“Multi-way Group Integration”, needs to be more organized, specified and clarified.
