A Case Study Of Staff Developers’ Work

Staff developers have been the focus of educational circles. From the view of existing studies, the literature abroad about staff developers is few. The domestic researches about teaching research group are in infancy. The existing researches are experience level, and academic and deep-seated researches are hardly any. What are the contents of present guidance of teachers’development, and are the structure of them rational? How are the modes of present guidance,and which positions are staff developers and teachers respectively in? Which aspects have such direction promoted the development of teachers, and which limitations are there? And then how to improve the work of staff developers?The researches have adopted ethnography as research methods. There are four primary problems in the present education of the primary and secondary mathematics, which are the logic trunk of subject being dim, teaching order being disordered, key points being not prominent and inquiry learning being formalistic. According to the four problems, we have selected the four corresponding teaching themes which are abdicated subtraction between double-digits, the area and perimeter of rectangle and square, addition and subtraction between different denominators and the area of sector, and have carried on the researches of the direction of teachers’development.The researches can be divided into two parts, the pre-research experiment and the formal study. The teaching theme of the pre-research experiments is abdicated subtraction between double-digits, and the staff developers are only teaching and research staffs. On basis of the analysis of the pre-research experiment, the thesis interprets the analytical framework of the coaching of teachers’development which is put forward by Gu Lingyuan, and then analysed the actuality of guidance of teachers’development. The results indicates that the present coaching are highly effective, but there are some problems at the same times. The logic trunk of teachers and staff developers’knowledge about subject is unclear. The directions about how to design tasks on the basis of front-end analysis and how to improve behaviours according to process evaluation are wanting. The researches of latter three cases are the groping practices of how to improve from the vertical, and they are also the three models of solving the problems which are the chaos in teaching,the key points being not prominent and inquiry Learning being formalistic.The three conclusions are as follows. The first conclusion is that the present direction is highly effective although, there are some problems. There are four advantages. First, the carriers of direction are lessons, and this way conforms to the need of teachers. Second, the abundant knowledge and experiences of staff developers have unfolded teachers’field of vision, and they also models to teachers. Third, the staff developers’clear and concise explaination has promoted the enhancement of teachers’understanding and skills of teaching. Fourth, the cooperation of experienced teachers and novice teachers can be conducive to their learning from each other. And at the same time there are five disadvantages. First, the emphasis of the direction is teaching and the direction about learning is shortage. Second, staff developers aspire the new ideas and form excessively, and overlook the meanings’ understanding. Third, the present direction focuses on the improvement of behaviours, and the direction fore and aft is lack. Fourth, staff developers are strong and magistral. Fifth, staff developers lay stress on their ready and their replies to generated problems are not sufficient. The second conclusion is about teaching. Firstly, the logic trunk of subject is not clear. Secondly, the order of teaching is disordered. Thirdly, the emphasis of teaching is not prominent. Fourth, inquiry Learning is formalistic. And the third conclusion is that the effective direction must be breached from the vertical.The suggestions in the light of the conclusions are the action education is the effective model of the direction of teachers’development and enhancing the training of staff developers is obligatory.
