This research mainly focuses on the Chinese and Sri Lanka heterogeneous marriage tales on the basis of comparative methodology. Many folklorists have attempted to analysis various aspects of folk literature. It is true that various modes and different features of folk tales express the reality of the human society and therefore, the folk literature is a rich area to investigate from various points of view. With in this context, heterogeneous marriage tale is a specific field in the folk literature.This study tries to sketch out the formal research elements in the first chapter and the simple definition of heterogeneous and heterogeneous marriage is given in the beginning. The motif and type of folk tale is a new category to the Sri Lanka folk literature but this systematic classification is briefly discussed for the well understanding of the Chinese heterogeneous marriage tales. The concept of heterogeneous marriage is commonly appeared in myths, legends and folk tales and therefore, the characteristics of those three forms of folk narratives are briefly mentioned in the first chapter.Chapter two determines the evolution of heterogeneous marriage concept in the world folk literature. The spread of heterogeneous marriage tales, varieties and motifs are investigated in the from the point of comparative methodology. The significance of Chinese heterogeneous tales and the cultural and religious influences are mainly elaborated. Similarly cultural and religious influence to the Sri Lanka heterogeneous marriage tales has been observed and further, Indian literary impact towards Chinese and Sri Lanka folk literature is widely discussed.Chapter three discusses the narrative elements of Chinese and Sri Lanka heterogeneous marriage tales. The plot of heterogeneous marriage tales both China and Sri Lanka is discussed on the basis of modern literary methods and the significance of characters is also mentioned. The important part of heterogeneous marriage tales is the functions of characters and structure are subtly analyzed with the help of comparative methodology.Chapter four examines the dimension of comparative study of heterogeneous marriage tales by using the comparative methodology. Among several comparative methods of folk narratives, the research used the parallel《平行研究》 and impact《影响研究》 methods respectively. The similarities and dissimilarities of Chinese and Sri Lanka heterogeneous marriage tales are widely examined with the help of comparative method.Chapter five mainly discusses the scientific view of heterogeneous marriage tales on the basis of sociology, anthropology and psychology. The cultural and social influence to the concept of heterogeneous marriage and the attitude of society towards human and non-human characters is examined in accordance with collective consciousness of the society. The content of some heterogeneous marriage tales are closed to origin myth or legend and those are analyzed in the light of anthropology. The human and non-human relationship is abnormal situation in the human society and therefore, the psychological reasons and meanings of heterogeneous marriage are investigated on the basis of modern psychology.A brief summary of the study and achievement is mentioned in the conclusion and pointed out the insufficiency of this comparative research in the field of Chinese and Sri Lanka folk literature.
