Innovations and developments in information and communication technology have paved the way for the Age of Big Data. Man has gained the ability to document data in a larger scale and variety, and to deeply explore the hidden information and core value by analyzing and processing them. Big Data, the world’s next natural resource, serves as a powerful driving force facilitating organizational innovation, industrial upgrading and economic development. Therefore, it has a wide application and promising prospect in many industries of modern society. The field of education is considered to be an important area for Big Data Application. It is the basic need and future trend for China to focus on the integration of Big Data and education.This essay focuses on Big Data Applications in China’s education both in theory and practice and puts forward some suggestions on how to promote the Big Data Applications in education. The basic concepts and connotation of Big Data are explained and explored from different perspectives. The history, future trends, application methods and significance of Big Data Application in China’s education are explored and analyzed. The real cases of big data’s application in American education are analyzed to illustrate the education developments and innovations driven by Big Data, to analyze the challenges, risks, experiences and lessons and to put forward some suggestions on Big Data Application in China’s education.The first chapter Introduction serves as the lead-in part of this essay, in which the subject, background, significance, methods, innovation, deficiency, and existing research results at home and abroad are covered and discussed. The second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth chapters serve as the main body of the essay, which mainly focus on theoretical study and practical analysis of Big Data applications in the field of education. The second chapter Big Data Overview systematically elaborates the definition, theoretical basis, development history, social value and potential risk, key technologies and methods of Big Data. The third chapter, Historical Development, Practical Significance and Approaches of Big Data Applications in the Field of Education sorts out the stages of historical development and characteristics of Big Data applications in the field of education, explains the practical significance and approaches to it. The fourth chapter Big Data Applications in the Wide Fields of American School Education, Community Education and State Education analyzes, based on the practice in America, the application scenarios and modes of Big Data applications in these wide fields. The fifth chapter, Big Data Applications In the Priority Areas of American Education emphasizes, based on the practice in America, the changes and development of Big-Data-driven educational priority areas (including teaching, learning, assessment, research, management and service). The sixth chapter Challenge for Big Data Applications in the Field of Education analyzes the various factors that may influence the smooth implementation of Big Data applications in the field of education. The seventh chapter, Recommendations for Development of Big Data Applications in China’s Education puts forward the implementing suggestions, respectively from the macro and micro perspective, on promoting the development of Big Data Applications in China’s education on the basis of analyzing and summarizing the experiences of America.
