This essay is based on fieldwork and focuses on visiting and being visited in Dali’s Foreigner Street. In the description and analysis of the Foreigner Street’s status quo, origin, development, climax, and transition, the essay tries to discuss what has happened between visiting and being visited, and how and why.In Dali’s Foreigner Street, foreigners, as the target of Chinese visitors, become the top attraction of the street. Foreign shop owners, waiters, and waitresses are "visited" by Chinese visitors. Being visited is not something pleasant to most foreigners. They think Chinese visitors treat them like animals in a zoo. This is, of course, very impolite. It can be even regarded as a kind of offence or insult. For this reason, foreigners began to move to a neighboring street. However, this led to the formation of a new Foreigner Street in Dali. Much in the same way, foreigners in the new street become the target of Chinese visitors again. Today, the Foreigner Street is a label of Dali’s tourism.Making foreigners the visiting target is not only an embodiment of the climax of the Foreigner Street but also an important factor of shaping the new Foreigner Street. As the common feature of the old and new Foreigner Street, making foreigners the visiting target is also the essay’s most important innovative point. This essay is based on fieldwork and focuses on visiting and being visited in the Foreigner Street. In the description and analysis of the Foreigner Street’s status quo, origin, development, climax, and transition, the essay tries to discuss:(1) the tesnsile force between visiting and being visited;(2)how to explain visiting and being visited in theory;(3) the relationship between images^discourse and facts. This thesis is divided into fifth chapters. As the beginning, it serves as an introduction, and specifically, the introduction gives a brief introduction to the choice of the topic, the meaning of the topic, research related, basic trains of thought, and approaches of the study. The status quo, origin, development, climax, and transition of Dali’s Foreigner Street are displayed from chapter onw to chapter fifth. The first chapter discusses the status quo of the Foreigner Street (2011-2012). The second chapter describes the origin of the Foreigner Street (1984-1995). The third chapter focuses on the development of the Foreigner Street (1996-2002). The fourth chapter centers on the climax of the Foreigner Street (2003-2008). The fifth chapter deals with the transition of the Foreigner Street (2008-2011). A conclusion is arrived at in the last chapter.
