Chinese calligraphy and painting market is the new market emerged with the tide of the Reform and Opening, and the dealing commodity in the market is the special one artwork. The operating and management of calligraphy and painting market is a new topic, which is in the margin of art, economics and management. So the topic is prospective, explorative and practical.There are three corn issues in the calligraphy and painting market:one is the price, one is the authenticity and the last is the operation way.Artwork is the special commodity, so price is always the focus and problem of calligraphy and painting market. Start with the produce of original artworks, this paper discusses the quality of artworks; combined with the price of ancient calligraphy and painting market and the demand of modern market, also state the basis of making a price for artworks that this paper recognized——making a price for artworks should consider the artistic value of works and build the evaluation system. The evaluation of artistic value also needs the hierarchical system of artistic quality and identity. This paper states four points for the hierarchical system:considering the popularity of artists and the social recognition of artworks, the value system of art (symbol), the academic value, and realm and quality. Although this kind of hierarchical system is my own research and understanding, it has considerable rationality and maneuverability.Artworks’ authenticity is always the stubborn illness of calligraphy and painting market, which need to be cured by professional auditing and discrimination institutions. And the artwork whose identity is not sure cannot access to market directly. Batch production of artworks is actually the problem of replication, and the research on this point is seldom in recent time. This paper acknowledges the artistic value of these masterly calligraphy and painting replications, which should have corresponding market price.Art market is operated in several ways with its own merits, such as artwork exposition, gallery marketing, auction company marketing and network marketing. However credit and observance is the main point, and equitable cooperating market system and protocols should be built.There are still three key issues in the management of calligraphy and painting market: building necessary related rules, building related supervision institutions and attention to the humanistic management of calligraphy and painting market. Lawmaking towards art need the cooperation among different departments just like the Ministry of Culture, administration departments and so on, that’s why there is a serious lag between legislation and art market. The neglect of related departments also leads to the blank of art laws. Market management lies on the build of supervision institutions. Organization issues haven’t carried out right now and the build of accrediting institutions, appraisal institutions and financial centers also need the cooperation of different departments, and still there are some other problems. Management problems of calligraphy and painting market cannot be solved by a doctor paper, so here I just state my opinions and draw the attention of the related departments.
