The Research On The Substance Of The Book Of Songs In Literary Sketchbooks In Song Dynasty

According to the records of catalogues in the historical works, it can be speculated that the literary sketchbook seems to be related with the "talk of the town" at the beginning, they are very consistent in source and range of content. In view of its stylistic flexibility, the scholars in the future generations expand its range of content, and make it an all-encompassing "hodgepodge". To the Song Dynasty, academic sketchbooks ran high, and the main types are historical anecdote and confirmation sketchbooks. At the same time, legends and supernatural stories are on the decrease. In this dissertation, the object of study is the argued materials about the Book of Songs in the sketchbooks of Song Dynasty. According to its contents, it can be divided into six parts, including basic problems research, confirming phonology and words, discussing the substance of the Book of Songs, annotating the naming things and systems, expounding the poetic theory and comment on historical events and persons. Materials about "basic problems research" cover most issues in the system of the Book of Songs. The scholars in Song Dynasty had the courage to doubt, and the Book of Songs was doubted in many respects that can be considered from the text to the literary form. New questions and views led the scholars to study the Book of Songs in a broader perspective and a more open mind, so they got achievements, but it was also criticized because of their precipitance."Confirming phonology and words" widely uses the new theoretical results of phonology, philology and exegetics to reinterpret the pronunciation and meanings of words in the Book of Songs. The main aim of this part is to show the methods which are used to discriminate the words in the Book of Songs by summarizing examples."Discussing the substance of the Book of Songs" practiced the requirements of "rediscovering the original meaning" in the study of Confucian classics in Song Dynasty. Suspicion about the literary form of the Book of Songs, reinterpreting the words and reexplaining the substance, the three aspects are so related that if one changes,other two must follow."Annotating the naming things and systems" is also a traditional subject in the study of Confucian classics, which not only contains ancient’s understanding and cognition about natural sciences, but also contains investigation and exploration about the traditional laws and regulations. Advancement of science and technology in Song Dynasty not only brought new knowledge about the objective world, also led to further discrimination of institution, culture and other abstract aspects. Of course, for the latter one, the development of history is a more direct driver."Expounding the poetic theory" considers the Book of Songs as the writing model, and tries to excavate and interpret the poetics views by it. There are two cases in "comment on historical events and persons". One is investigating and evaluating the historical events and persons that were covered in the Book of Songs, and the other is to evaluate historical events and persons in other dynasties by the language of the Book of Songs. Although the dissertation uses the topics as a framework, the main way of writing is comment, rather than monographic study, which is determined by the unique style of the literary sketchbooks.
