Formulation and transition of the American foreign policies now have deeplyhistorical origins and traditional ideas. After the American colonies have thrownoff the yoke of England, they had no hesitation in accept the unique and excellent ofthe republic plan. In this sense, the American Founding Fathers made an importantstep forward in exploring solutions to the problems. In fact, they learned lessonsabout historical experience of the republicanism which on the theories and practice,and based on its practical value, they researched, absorbed, and then opened up a pathof republic practice which was beyond dreams.This dissertation will focus on examining the roles of republicanism on thenational-building and foreign affairs in the early America. Most important of all, thefounding fathers knew the republican ideology so well. From a large amount ofdocuments and materials, they derived the courage and the survival strength from therepublican culture. The early America had three stages in national-building includingthe Continental Congress, Articles of Confederation and the first federal government,but with the economic and political crisis was deepening, divergence views of thefounding fathers grew. Nonetheless, their interests coincided because both of themblazed a trail which suited to national republic conditions. From the diversity anduncertainty in thought and action, America was always good at cope with the situation,and solved the problems on the republicanism.For the American on the foreign affairs,‘Liberty” was the core of the republicanideology which not only contributed to their world outlooks but also had greatinfluences on dealing with the affairs of the country developments. From thegeneration of Jefferson or Madison, added the adjunct of “Liberty” in front of the“Empire” vocabulary which implied the fundamental differences from the traditional“empire” images. For them, the outward territorial expansion and the inward libertyof American republic were unified; this reflected their theoretical thought on how topreserve the republican form of government. From Jefferson became president in 1800to the out broke of the War of1812, the United States stumbled in the trial of“Liberty Empire”. There was failure, a little success. When Madison was inauguratedas President, the hope of influenced Britain and France through “peace coercion”came to the complete failure, and then the press of "The republic in peril" led to theWar of1812.In a few words, in the early days of new America, although they shook offcolonial rule and regained their independence, they were so young and lacked innational strength. In this process, the republicanism which from the Americanfounding had great influence on the development of the domestic and foreign policies,and then had far-reaching consequences for mankind.
