Today, while communication is developing extremely fast in both terms of science and technic, mass media seem to have reached all aspects of real life. It has controlled entire information environment and base on the advantage of communication, mass media built up image of a nation in public through reporting of that nation.Since the renovation work is carried out so far, under the leadership and support of the Communist Party and State of Vietnam, media means of Vietnam’s communication have obtained rich experience and advanced technic in communication. So it has promoted an increasingly important role in building up image of many countries, including China. While China, believed the world’s largest and continuously upgraded comprehensive national strength developing country, has a rapid economic development and improved international status. So the country nowadays attracts more and more attentions of other countries in the world, expecially some Western developed countries and other developing ones including Vietnam.This research took NhandanOnline-the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of Vietnam and is the most powerful and influential newspaper in Vietnam-as an example to research, survey and analyse status quo of reporting on China; to learn how the NhandanOnline to build overall national image of China through reporting. At the same time, the document also learnt what mass media need to do to report objectively, honestly, fairly and positively about the situation of China and Vietnam-China bilateral relations.The introduction part of research detailed the research background and significance, the current state of research in domestic and foreign, purpose and methods of research and academic innovation.Besides the introduction part, the research is divided into3parts. The first one is mainly presentation of theory which includes conducting detailed commentary on "the identification and formation of national icon","role of national icon in mass media"," frame theory". On that basis, this part also present the new analysis and reviews of research on this issues.The second part focused on analyzing "issue frame" in reporting China on NhandanOnline, which includes the overall analysis of reporting important events related to China and analysis of reporting important events in Vietnam-China relations.The third part concluded Chinese national image in the NhandanOnline’s eye and the study factors influence NhandanOnline on Chinese news reports. The final part proposed some ideas to promote Vietnam-China Comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new century.The study combined qualitative and quantitative research methods, synthesis of research methods including content analysis, case studies (studies in each specific instance), questionnaires, interviews. The study took NhandanOnline for example, selected the information coverage of China for a period of3years:beginning, middle and end of the10years from2003to2012(2003,2008and2012). The study analyzed the amount of coverage, content and attitudes in news coverage, including the overall analysis, analysis of the way reporting on important events in China, on the milestone events in Vietnam-China relations.According to the study, China is seen in Vietnam’s Nhandan Online as a positive, friendly foreign and political state which owns a prosperous and stable economy, an advanced technology and science, a traditional diversified culture, a effective healthcare and a powerful military. While Vietnamese media present their own viewpoints in reporting news about historical issues between the two countries, but overall basically reporting on China with positive, affirmative, objective framework and perspective. This bias is presented clearly in coverage of mutual visits of the two countries’ high-level leaders and the Chinese major events.
