Collar tightness plays a very important role in human clothing comfort.A collar which is too loose leads to poor appearance and thermal insulation property,while a collar that is too tight deteriorates clothing comfort.In recent years,people are spending more and more time in hunching over computers and mobile phones.This poor posture goes against the normal cervical shape,thus causing morphological changes in cervical spine.Based on this common situation,collar need to be designed differently.So take young professional men as the research object,this study aims to refine men’s neck shape and establish neck clothing pressure prediction model by using of information statistics and finite element method,probe the mechanics relationship between human body and clothing,which is contributed to improve consumer neck clothing pressure comfort.This is an integrated study combining information statistics,human ergonomics and mechanics of elasticity.Research provide both basic theory foundation and technical support for the clothing comfort design with a goal to meet the requirements of consumers.This paper is composed of four major parts: 1)an analysis of neck characteristics of Chinese young male office workers based on 3D body scan.2)a neck finite element model development of Chinese young male office workers.3)a study of pressure comfort threshold of the necks.4)a study of neck clothing pressure prediction.Specific elaborations are as follows:The first chapter aims to develop a profile to characterize the necks of Chinese male professionals with a goal to provide a reference for men’s clothing design,particularly collar design.And putting up the data base of three dimensional finite element model in the third chapter.Two hundred Chinese male professionals aged between 25-30 were selected.And the neck data of the participants were extracted using three-dimensional anthropometry by using 3D non-contact body measurement instrument.The neck section,neck girth,neck length,neck inclination,and 3-D neck shape were characterized and classified by using descriptive statistics and cluster analyses by using SPSS software.A collective cluster analysis based on all the key measurements was also conducted to profile the Chinese young male office workers’ necks and the results revealed four kinds of data suggest of collar sizing standard.The second chapter purpose to establish a three-dimensional finite element model with a goal to develop a mechanical platform of clothing pressure prediction.The model include there layers,they are skeleton layer,soft tissue layer and skin layer.The cluster with largest number of subjects was chosen for the 3D neck model development.Through 3D body scanner to obtain 40 neck section point cloud figure between the root neck and occipital.The reading points on the cross section point cloud figure were identified every 5°by MATLAB.Then the three-dimensional model of the neck skin layer was output by SolidWorks software using three-dimensional coordinates of averaged neck of 20 subjects.Then,the finite element model was established by ANSYS software.The third chapter purpose to develop clothing for experiment,with a goal to provide the experimental materials for the pressure prediction research in below.According to the fabric performance test,six different kinds of material and seven kinds of strain rate were output,42 kinds of text clothing were developed.Based on subjective and objective tests,the comfort threshold of clothing pressure on different parts of the neck was proposed in the fourth chapter.In according to the fabric performance test,42 types of garments made of 6 different fabrics and 7 kinds of elongation were designed.In the subjective test,50 male subjects were asked to evaluate their degree of pressure and comfort of wearing the clothes using the the eleven Liket scale,and the pressure comfort of each part of the neck was sorted by the fuzzy mathematics method.In the following objective test,pressure value of the neck were obtained by using the balloon contact pressure tester to test five young male with similar neck shape and one artificial human body.Finally,the clothing pressure thresholds of necks were calculated.Using three-dimensional finite element model of the neck,the fourth chapter calculates the relationship between garments pressure comfort and garment stretch degree.Mathematical model was established to guide the design of garment size and choice of collar fabric.Firstly,the threedimensional finite element model of the neck is validated by the relationship between the garment objective pressure and the curvature of the three-dimensional model.And then,surface deformation of three-dimensional model was used to calculate the circumference of the collar.Finally,the relation between clothing pressure of the neck,clothing stretch degree and fabric performance were calculated.This finding can provide data support for the sizing,design and fitness of stretch clothes design.
