Global warming has proven to be a serious problem worldwide, and the control of greenhouse gas emissions has been unanimously recognized as a measure to slow this process.Due to rapid urbanization in China, carbon emissions are produced quickly, while carbon aggregation gradually decreases in villages-thus eroding rural ecology.Actually, the current low-carbon rural ecological assessment systems and planning strategies are largely subjective in evaluation and analysis without a quantitative calculation of village carbon emission. In the meantime, the evaluating indicator and planning strategy are not based on objective and quantized carbon emission data. The existing quantized approaches to calculating greenhouse gas emissions, however, are mainly reported for countries, provinces and large cities(or even single buildings)and are rarely explored for villages. This paper aims to promote low-carbon and ecological village construction and long-term sustainable development through the following processFirst,by isolating the emission sources that conform to the characteristics of Zhejiang Province and combining them with the functional division of governments at a grassroots level,a list of rural carbon emission sources is constructed in Zhejiang, matched to local features and connected to the government departments.Meanwhile, the paper refers to the general international method of carbon emission calculation, adopts a means 'from bottom to top' to gather the activity data of emission sources and selects, sorts and builds a Zhejiang rural carbon emission factor database according to the 'local-national-international' principle, thus structuring a carbon emission calculation pattern.Second, considering four distinctive landforms(mountain lands, hills, plains and islands)in Zhejiang village, the paper selects a series of factors and indicators that influence rural ecology assessment;analyses their importance and weight;and thus establishes a subjective evaluation method in this field. With the rural ecology assessment method and quantitative calculation model united, the integrated assessment method pertaining to low-carbon ecology in Zhejiang village is structured as a combination of subj ecti ve/obj ective and quantitative/qualitative.Additionally,the indicators are evaluated and detailed from dimensions of rural carbon emission, carbon aggregation and ecology degree.Third,to obtain basic data, field surveys and questionnaires are implemented in eight villages representative of the distinctive landforms.Based on the established calculation model and basic factor database, carbon emission and aggregation in the village are calculated and compared to that in cities in order to analyse the carbon emission and aggregation features in Zhejiang. With the established ecology assessment method,a qualitative evaluation is made on village ecology. Then, according to the carbon emission calculation results, the paper evaluates and analyses the indicators from the three dimensions listed above, focusing on the factors influencing those three dimensions and measures for improvement.Further, the paper identifies the typical indicators for developing low-carbon ecological villages in Zhejiang. Finally, referring to the STIRPAT-an international basic pattern of environmental impact assessment-the paper elaborates the main factors that impact rural carbon emissions in Zhejiang on the basis of the carbon emission calculation results of typical villages. With these factors, the paper then analyses the results,re-identifies the extended variables of the basic model and preliminarily builds a model to calculate rural carbon emissions.A multiple regression analysis is carried out on this preliminary model using the carbon emission calculation data found in typical cases using SPSS statistical software in order to revise this model and form a simplified model measurement method for Zhejiang rural carbon emissions. In this way,the simplified model can be applied to quickly calculate and compare rural carbon emissions. The research constructs a rural carbon emission calculation pattern and the first carbon emission factor basic database in Zhejiang.A comprehensive system and means is then put forward to assess ecological and low-carbon village carbon emission, carbon aggregation and ecological degree.Simultaneously, after the case study, the paper will establish a simplified model calculation method to not only estimate the carbon emission, carbon aggregation and ecological development of a village in a detailed and integrated way,but to also quickly measure and horizontally compare rural carbon emissions. The research findings will likely be referential for relevant governmental departments to formulate policies and devise and construct low-carbon and ecological villages. The findings will then be able to promote low-carbon and ecological village construction and long-term sustainable development.
