Research On Protection Of Industrial Architectural Heritage And Cultural Renewal

The protection of industrial architectural heritage and the issue of cultural renewal have been receiving increasing attention from the Chinese government and the academic circles,leading to abundant theoretical achievements and practical foundations.However,there still exists a gap between China and the developed countries.On the basis of related theories upon the preservation of China's industrial architectural heritage and cultural renewal,the thesis analyzed the theoretical research,the status quo,western experiences,visual design and practical strategies regarding the protection of China's industrial architectural heritage and the cultural renewal in a multi-disciplinary perspective covering the study of design,cultural heritage,architecture and history.The thesis consists of five sections: The first section went into related theories regarding the preservation of industrial architectural heritage and cultural renewal,introduced the basic concept of “industrial architectural heritage” and “cultural renewal” and the evaluation system of heritage value,analyzed the renewable mode of industrial architectural heritage and its fundamental features,and also discussed the purpose of the research,current problems and the significance of the protection of industrial architectural heritage and culture renewal.The second section mainly analyzed the status quo of China's protection of industrial architectural heritage and culture renewal in a chronological order,emphasized the development of China's industry since the foundation of PRC.Besides,it introduced the geographical distribution of industrial architectural heritage and the outstanding problems lying in the preservation of China's industrial architectural heritage.The third section is a comprehensive case study both domestically and internationally.It analyzed the protection of industrial architectural heritage and renewable usage in Shanghai,Beijing,Qingdao,Xi'an and Taiwan,and concluded the experience and shortcomings.On the other hand,it analyzed the development process of the protection of industrial architectural heritage and the renovation mode of industrial architectures in Germany,the United States,the United Kingdom and France,and concluded the lessons we can learn from.The fourth section discussed the protection of industrial architectural heritage and cultural renewal from the perspective of visual art design.It analyzed the technical and aesthetic formation of industrial architectures,the visual elements,the formation of industrial architectural heritage,the generation of aesthetic sense of visual beauty,the formation of visual colors and communicative systems,and the significance of visual design upon the preservation of industrial architectural heritage and cultural renewal.The last section mainly discussed the framework of the protection of China's industrial architectural heritage and cultural renewal from the perspectives of government functions,research and decision-making,planning and design,and accordingly provided a series of strategic suggestions.The thesis takes the issue of the protection of China's industrial architectural heritage and culture renewal as the main focus,brings forward practical strategies from the perspectives of history,culture,art,design,plan,and also presents a new notion for the protection of industrial architectural heritage and cultural renewal from a higher academic level.The thesis advocates the concept of “protective renewable creativity” to help more people understand the real meaning and value of the industrial heritage in urban cities,thus contributing to the better preservation of China's diminishing “Industrial Memory”.
