Investigation And Morphological Study Of Traditional Korean Wood Funeral

This thesis studies the traditional Korean funeral bier. The author collected and arranged the related study materials on investigation, especially focused on the form and decoration of it. As one of the Korean funeral culture's representatives, the bier embodies the Korean traditional funeral culture, also reflects the culture communication between China and Korea. Especially the "The Family Rituals of Zhu Xi" which was introduced into Korea in late Goryeo Dynasty had profound effects on Korean culture. The most obvious feature of the traditional Korean funeral bier is mainly wood carving decoration. So its wood carving art is the emphases for the thesis. It has a plain and frank style. Especially in the late Korean Dynasty, the funeral bier's decoration themes and methods were more multiple and luxuriant, and the religious subjects and folk beliefs theme emerged on the bier's decoration, showing many different religions existing and merging at that time.
