As a folk art, Gezi opera is cultivated by the people on both sides of the Straits. Therefore, its musical characteristics represent the features of the Straits' culture development of both sides. To some extent, it also reflects the social, historical and cultural relation of both sides.Gezi is the headstream of Gezi opera music on both sides of the Straits. Gezi in south Fujian grows for the main vocal Qi-zi-diao after it has been dramatized in Taiwan. It has gone through a general process from folk songs to opera singing in the field of Chinese traditional opera singing. Under the influence of special social context of Fujian and Taiwan. Qi-zi-diao, the drama form of Gezi develops toward melancholy feeling by combining local folk music with sobbing tone. During the forbidden period of Gezi opera, some artists in south Fujian create za-sui-diao by absorbing Gezi tones, which keeps Gezi opera away from the brink of ruin. Therefore, the homogeneous properties of Gezi opera on both sides of the Straits can be found. In the long-term artistic practice, a self-awareness that keeping the music idiosyncrasy of Gezi opera in a rich variety of performance forms has been formed on both sides of the Straits, this article defines the value orientation that maintaining the traditional character of the drama as the"consciousness of genre of drama". If "Gezi" has created the nature of "homology"to Gezi opera music culture on the sides of the Taiwan straits, then the "consciousness of genre of drama" as its further reflection that features in their respective development and exchange interaction in the new era.Since 1949, Gezi opera has existed in the different environment on both sides of the Straits, the music of Gezi opera has accordingly the multi-development. Due to the influence of reforming Chinese traditional opera, Gezi opera in China mainland has been on its way to a path of standardization and characterization. Furthermore, this Gezi opera music inherits the traditional opera singing and develops the special opera instrument. Through integrating the opera forms and other art styles, the Gezi opera music has also developed some new ways of music-creation. For example, in Taiwan, there are three various performance forms and each has its own features. The Lao Gezi opera has its distinct grass-roots level. Ye-tai Gezi opera follows two different aesthetic characteristics, the one performances during the day follows the operation mode of mixing "live show" and "live" piece, and the music of the performance at night, which is named Hupiezi, however, is completely entertainment. In addition, "theater effect", new tune and the concept of "delicate" is the different expression of the diversified music style of the modern theater of Gezi opera in Taiwan.Gezi opera develops in the different social environment on both sides of the Straits, it presents not only the nature of homology"but also the character of diversity. However, such situation did not make the opera music from its original characteristics. The "consciousness of genre of drama" has ever been the common cultural consciousness of the music of the drama on both sides. As the source of the genre of drama, Gezi is always the culture centripetal force to maintain the music idiosyncrasy of Gezi opera.Homology and diversity embody the main characteristics of Gezi music on both sides of the Straits, which basically display the relation of their cultural core and pulling force.
