The philosophical foundation embodied in the ancient big blue-green landscape painting is rooted in the philosophical theories of Yin-Yang and Five Elements,Confucianism,Daoism and Buddhism.The expressive form of color,using comprehensive color and subjective color is somewhat general,conceptual and symbolic,which reflects the integration of Confucianism,Daoism and Buddhism.The coloring technique attaches importance to rationality,design and modeling neither pursuing the natural occurrence of bright and dark changes of light and shade,its own image color,nor the pure emotional color expressions.The expressive forms of color in all Chinese dynasties' traditional landscape paintings can be characterized by “progressing,innovation,integration and retro-ancient”.It can be said that every historical stage had witnessed the perfect form of the painting.All those facts can be attributed to influences of artistic development laws,drawing on other artistic forms,political atmosphere and a retro-ancient current of thought.The objective law of painting art development has determined that the form and the color of the ancient time's traditional landscape paintings are in constant evolution.The development or evolution of coloring techniques is both the result of a painter's pursuit of artistic innovation and the result of political,economic and cultural influences of the times a painter belongs to.Besides,the coloring technique was once also under the influence of the development law of art itself and the development of tools as well as painting techniques.With the process of history,the coloring technique of ancient China's traditional landscape painting has gone through constant evolution and gradual enrichment,and the variety of color increases.Meanwhile,with the betterment of landscape paintings' wrinkle method,the coloring technique of the traditional landscape painting has changed correspondingly.The coloring technique of traditional landscape paintings in ancient China has been enriched,to different extents,by diversified subject matters and the increase of drawing material.In addition,differences in painters' coloring technique are an embodiment of the differences in every painter's artistic pursuit,color preference and cultural cultivation.In many cases,the change of painting styles and the existence of new painting forms can be attributed to the change of creators.Different social classes hold varied cognition of art,varied aesthetic pursuit and even varied viewsabout the function of art.Any kind of art form,however,will experience the developing course from prosperity to decline.Anyway,the art history is continuously refreshing in this way,which is in accordance with the law of artistic creation to pursue innovation and avoid repetition.So is the ancient big blue-green mountain and water painting.From the prosperous time of Sui and Tang dynasties,to the decline of the Ming and Qing dynasties,it had composed a splendid chapter in the Chinese art history over one thousand years;Contemporarily,there is a trend of seeking constant innovations in coloring techniques of big blue-green landscape painting,the diverse development of technique expression forms and art creation styles,showing the new rise tendency.Meanwhile,the adoption of new materials,techniques,the choices of new material and modeling ways of,all of them had greatly enriched the ancient big blue-green landscape painting coloring techniques,and contributed to the contemporary revival of ancient big blue-green landscape painting.
