Pragmatic Tradition And Political Aesthetics

Guanzhong was a great statesman in the Spring and Autumn Period.Guanzi,which bears the name of Guan Zhong,is one of the classical literature of Chinese various schools during the period from Qin times to the Han Dynasty.Guanzi records Guan's governance philosophy and practice,and it is also a conclusion of Chinese various schools thoughts in the pre-Qin.As an encyclopedia-style classical literature,Guanzi is of great significance for understanding the social and political aspects of life in the pre-Qin.Though important it is,the study on Guanzi has been in a cold state for a long time.Misreading,misinterpreting also occurred usually.In the meanwhile,the loss of text appears in the spreading process,causing a lot of controversy among researchers.Thus,the book has not been demonstrated to be valuable in the true sense.This paper attempts to give Guanzi a fresh interpretation from the perspective of political aesthetic,with pragmatic tradition clues of political practice focusing on shi[phenomenon],bian[regime change],xiao[effect]and mei[value]in ancient China,to clear the chapter of Guanzi in context,to unearth the deep thoughts beyond the era in Guanzi,to build a political aesthetic system which is full of Chinese traditional wisdom,to explore the meaning in Guanzi of making an GOOD COUNTRY in the moment.On the writing means,this essay basing on the Guanzi text,to sum up and explain some important concepts such as Shi,Shi,Qi,Dao,Jun,Chen,Manners and Law,etc.And in conjunction with the historical context and ideological context which the text lay in,it breaks the ontological mode that the subject and the object opposing to each other,reset the world where human and nature,human living together,and thus reveal the political rationality and practice wisdom and GOOD COUNTRY in imaginary,which means the pursuit of political order in an aesthetic sense.In the end,this paper concludes that only the establishment and improvement of such GOOD COUNTRY,can mankind reach a better life,and it is where the contemporary significance Guanzi lies.This thesis consists of seven chapters.Chapter 1 is the introduction.This chapter mainly summarizes the situation on study of Guanzi in history,points out the hot spots,difficulties and disputes in the study and the problems of research perspective and methodology.And then proposes the new viewpoint in this article:the politics and aesthetics relations as a starting point,explore the pragmatic tradition of ancient Chinese which Guanzi represents,as well as the practice of GOOD COUNTRY in the influence of pragmatic tradition.Chapter 2 is the pandect.This chapter will clarify the basic connotation of pragmatic tradition and its characteristics,and point out that the basis upon which it is the life aesthetic situation,making a difference from the concept of "tradition" in a general sense.The historical figure Guan Zhong and Guanzi named after his name are very close to the pragmatic tradition:the former is a politics practical practitioner of the pragmatic tradition,the latter is the literature written and conservation of the pragmatic tradition.Chapter 3 to the Chapter 6 are the sections.Respectively from the four aspects of human and natural relationship,king-subject relationship,manners and laws relationship,livelihood issues,it analyses dedply the thought about pragmatic tradition and the politics practice of GOOD COUNTRY implied in Guanzi.Chapter 7 is the conclusion.This part briefly summarizes the pragmatic tradition that Guanzi reflects on and the continues and influence in the later political practice as brief analysis reviews following.Finally,it points out the modern sense to explore and develop the pragmatic tradition in Guanzi,as a doctrinal support to provide proof for the practical feasibility of GOOD COUNTRY concept.
