As one of the important film genres in film industry of current China,films of adolescence form comparatively stable genre types in the process of formation and development.With the deepening of economic system reform,the continuous developing of film industry,films of adolescence have also developed from youth self-reflection in the 1990s to pluralistic film genres,which regard youth nostalgia as the main narrating feelings,and are a mixture of elements such as love,city,romance,comics,and crime,etc..Through development of more than half a century,films of adolescence have become one of the most popular film genres loved by Chinese audience.Through privatized youth which is a diachronic process,films of adolescence grasp the essence of the grand historic background of modern Chinese society,minify history into individual memory,and create films with Chinese characteristics.This article will take films of adolescence as the research subject,hackle the developing process of films of adolescence,and discuss about the characteristics of the genre generation and genre narration of adolescence films.And then,the connotation and purport of adolescence films will be interpreted from the angle of aesthetics and culture;the history and present situation of adolescence films will be analyzed;the necessity and essentiality of the formation of adolescence films as a film genre will be discussed.Adolescence films after the 1990s had been concerned by academic circles,and initiated researchers' exploration of the formation of its genre.Adolescence films mainly describe the spiritual perplexity,physical and psychological changes experienced by youth.They are also about the emotional experience of the main part of the youth,such as love,natural affection,and friendship.Adolescence films is a film genre which takes the events happened in the formation of youth's outlook on life,values,and love as its narrating content and theme.When first appear in 1930s,the world adolescence films experienced four stages of development,and each stage present obvious genre characteristics:from the rise of youth image to its thrive after disesteem,from individualizes experience projected into diversified creation.Through hundreds of years of development,it becomes an important film genre in some countries and areas in the world.After experiencing idealist youth age in 1930s,Chinese adolescence films become mature in 1990s.After the 21th century,there was a turning of genre,fron small mass,autobiographical youth recording to youth carnival of commercial and entertainment.Although the element of youth has been in Chinese film long before,films taking theme of youth as main narration have experienced a series of long process.The narrative genre of Chinese films formed its stable characteristics after 1990s.On the part of narrating motif,Chinese adolescence films show the youth's perplexity of love and sex in their growing process through the conflict between confusing love and lost sex of the main youth subject.At the same time,the feelings of yearning and wanting to escape from adult world let the youth subject form the inner confusion of yearning for growing up and get adult qualifications on one hand,and on the other hand,refusing growing up and fearing growing up.The cruelty and disorder of the youth world is unfolded through violence and death.The presentation of motif shows the characteristics of hesitation and contradiction.On the part of character shaping,Chinese adolescence films construct character map through three groups of youth subject:youth subjects,the image of the elders and passing travelers.The rebellion,perplexity and marginality of the youth subjects are caused by the "absent"mother and the "incompetent" father.The broken family then lead to divergent path in youth's growth.Coaches,stars,and even strangers meet accidentally can be the spirit leader,who can lead the youth subjects to growth.On the part of image narration,adolescence films of different styles are deduced through realistic recording images,cruel youth images,romantic and nostalgic images,and fresh and bright images,and present to the audience the youth world from multiple perspectives.On the part of narrating motif,being different from the classical Hollywood narration,Chinese adolescence films use counter-classical narration,travelling narration,essay narration and recollecting narration to tell youth stories,and present the complex and sensitive affective dimension.Chinese adolescence films construct regional cultural identity through space production.The family space of the youth subjects is broken and complex.The mutilation and tumbling down of family,the absence and running away of parents and relatives show the specific time character.School space usually means rules and restraint,and it became the place from which the youth subjects intend to escape.Comparatively speaking,public space became the main place of living and activity,the youth subjects indulging and wandering in it still feel lost,and can not get the ultimate redemption.Towns and cities are the main living space of the youth subjects,gradually secularized countries do not have the preliminary poetry any more.Lagging and tumbling towns and cities become the durance space of the youth subjects.The modernization of towns and cities makes the youth subjects feel lost,and the towns and cities become the paradise for them to degenerate and indulge in.Besides,trains,idle pulley,high-rises,and courtyard become the symbols of regional culture,which view the regional cultural identity of self through the youth world's image in the mirror.From 1990s to now,adolescence films have experienced aesthetic pursuit of realism,modernism,and post-modernism.Adolescence films grasp the essence of realistic image through youth,and use aesthetic concept of realism to write the stories of youth.Behind the youth stories is the serious concern for the reality.Simultaneously,taking youth as the mirror image,adolescence films exhibit youth subjects' strongly hankering for existence and value in modernism through their wandering and dissimilation.In the21th century,adolescence films also explained the characteristics of youth consumption in new times in the name of youth,and present the explanations of collage,fragmentation,replicability,authority and meaning."Youth" is a specific growing stage in life,and taking youth for an opportunity,youth subjects' concern for the real world,pursuit and inquiring of self-value are exhibited.With the development of times,adolescence films shows different aesthetic color and ideological connotation.Adolescence films,which regard youth as the main narrating object,inevitably have strong sub-cultural coloring.However,Chinese adolescence films find localized ways of expression for youth sub-culture in western cultural theories.Adolescence films become powerful weapons expressing the ideas of offenders,and become the confronting front of youth culture and the main ideology.Although adolescence films will inevitably be incorporated into the strong culture of consumption,the representation expressing youth culture through imaging dimension will draw the marginal youth sub-culture into the vision of the public,and complete the localized expression of youth culture.At the same time,female sub-culture is also presented in adolescence films through specific expression forms.Adolescence films concern the self-discovery and construction of females at their puberty stage,and explain female youth's psychological and physical transmutation completed in the course of their emotional persistence.In the long process of development,Chinese adolescence films formed specific aesthetic meanings,cultural attributes,and characteristics of film genre.As a film genre,in the hot development of current Chinese film industry,how do adolescence films maintain the audience's novelty and sense of identity,unify the commerciality and artistry harmoniously in the future,and form deep and permanent attraction in affective dimension,will become problems of Chinese adolescence films in the future.Through deep and meticulous research of adolescence films,this article interpret the forming rule,aesthetic and cultural attributes of the film genre.The world of youth is splendorous and rich,the uniqueness of youth in individual growth determines that,adolescence films will certainly experience sustainable development as an important film genre in China,and tell the youth stories of different times continuously.
