Study Of Chinese Western Novels In The 21^st Century

Chinese western novels in the 21 st century is an essential part of Chinese literary circles.Its writing horizon and expression techniques are increasingly becoming extensive and diverse,and gradually an important literary phenomenon and the study focus of academic field.Taking the most influential novels among them as its subject of study,this dissertation starts its study from three perspectives,i.e.history disenchantment,native nostalgia and poetic construction,on the basis of summarizing,analyzing and arranging the existing research results.Then it combs and explores these novels' expression ways and development trends in the light of their creative resources,theme expression,creative skills,stylistic forms,narrative structure,language types,spiritual temperament and aesthetic charm,which together constructs the unique literary picture of western China.While studying the creation of these novels comprehensively,this dissertation also attempts to summarize and reveal their significance in literary history and the aesthetic values of these novels since the 21 st century,as well as their enlightenment to Chinese literature.This dissertation includes three parts: introduction,body and conclusion.The body part is made up of five chapters.The introduction explains and defines a series of concepts mentioned in the dissertation,makes a review of the research status quo,accounts for the reason and significance of choosing this topic and the holistic ideas of writing.Chapter 1: “Chinese Western Novels: Literary Transformation at the Turn of the Century”.This part draws an outline of the evolution of Chinese western novels,discusses the transformation of these novels in the 21 st century and interprets the spirit of Chinese west in these novels.In the case of the evolution of Chinese western novels,the focus is on the development of Chinese western novels from 1949 to 1999,which can be further divided into three stages: rebirth and growth,resurgence and position,prosperity and development.The features of each stage are thoroughly analyzed.In the 21 st century,the transformation of the society as a whole breeds the transformation of Chinese western novels.The discussion about it emphasizes the analysis of internal and external causes of this transformation and the investigation of the connotation of “western experience”.The study on the “western spirit” in the Chinese western novels of the 21 st century begins with defining the concept of “western spirit”,the new features and connotation of which are further interpreted.Chapter 2: “The Diverse and Multidimensional Investigation into the History Truth of the Chinese West”.Taking “history disenchantment” as a starting point,this chapter investigates the diverse and multidimensional history of the Chinese west constructed in the novels of Chinese western writers.In terms of the diversity,Chinese western history novels are the focus of this chapter,which studies the demonstration of different states of history,i.e.personal history,family history,district history,hero legend,history of religious belief,history of Chinese Cultural Revolution and the history of “hunger”.Concerning the multidimension,what are thoroughly studied are the different narrative ways including stereoscopic perspective,modern reconstruction,allegorical presentation,testimony writing in the light of the different states of history by the Chinese western writers.The diverse and multidimensional investigation into the history of Chinese west contributes much to exploring the truth of history.Chapter 3: “Nostalgic Writing of Chinese Western Local Novels”.Starting from the key word “native nostalgia”,this chapter focuses on the nostalgic feature of Chinese western local novels.Since the 21 st century,the gradual decay of Chinese western rural area stimulates the native complex of Chinese western writers.The creation of novels therefore displays the strong nostalgia complex.From “the gradually disappearing ‘village'”,“folk characters and scenery remembrance”,“the receding last”,this chapter discusses the specific presentation of nostalgic writing of Chinese western novels and probes into the literary significance of nostalgic writing.Because of the anxiety brought about by the modernity,the nostalgic writing mentioned above shows the recognition and establishment of Chinese western writers about the Chinese western rural self-identity,which is reflected in the literary expression about maintaining historical memory and anticipating the future by these writers in the tide of globalization.Chapter 4: “Poetic Construction of Chinese Western Novels”.With “poetic construction” as the key words,this chapter analyzes the stylistic and textual characteristics of Chinese western novels since the 21 st century.First,both the divine writing of scenery and animals and the reposition of the relationship between man and nature by the Chinese western writers are considered as their response to “poetic dwelling”.Second,“poeticity” is considered to be people's desire for original and harmonious state.It is also the conscious promotion and conversion of real life which tends to be the ideal state of life.The shaping of ideal characters in Chinese western novel just illustrates it.Thus the poetic features of the Chinese western novels themselves are revealed.Third,considering the poetic features from the perspective of style,the Chinese western novels have been uniquely constructed in terms of artistic form and aesthetic pursuit.They draw on the popular cultural resources and traditional literary form and integrate the dialect and archaism.Chapter 5: The Literary Value and Creative Dilemma of Chinese Western Novels”.This chapter contributes to the study of the present state of Chinese western novels and reveals their literary value and creative dilemma.It holds that the unique literary value of these novels lies in the rational spirit,humanist concern and native consciousness reflected in the Chinese western writers' creation in the roaring literary circles of the 21 st century.Meanwhile,it points out the dilemmas in the reconstruction of the creative resources,artistic expression,value concept of Chinese western novels and investigates the possible way out.The conclusion summarizes the development,creative features and cultural implications of Chinese western novels in the 21 st century.It further clarifies their important value and significance and anticipates the possible direction and trend of Chinese western novels in the future.
