Important in the history of Chinese modern oil painting,Su Tianci witnessed and experienced personally the modern art of China.Combined ancient and modern in china and abroad to sensitively express people's internal,his paintings perfectly melted manifestation and connotation of Western painting and Chinese art,inosculating as a whole his personal passion and Eastern verve as well as human artistic comprehension.Persistent in pursuit and exploration,Su Tianci made his best in education throughout his whole life.He learned true essence from Lin Fengmian,to quest the quintessence of melting Western and Eastern art.Depart from track of predecessors;he made his unique creation,expressing the nature emotionally and individually.Containing strong Eastern implication and profound cultural connotation,His articles enrich and widen Chinese modern oil painting.Su Tianci is connected closed with Painting Nationalization in China.His contribution is just his artistic exploration and practice.With practice,he answered a big question of his era-----how to absorb foreign culture and create national new art,ie.Painting Nationalization,which presently is quite valuable in artistic research.Su Tianci passed away in 2006.Oct 10 th of 2008 observed the grand opening of “Eastern Implication-----Retrospective Exhibition of Su Tianci” in National Art Museum of China.His Masterpieces exhibited collectively at first time,which evoked great repercussions in all circles.In symposium,all experts appeal to made more professional and penetrating research on Su Tianci.In view of this,the author try to entire this research on the previous basis.His artistic style as masterstroke,this thesis studies and analyses based on the his life experience,artistic lineage,painting skills and ideas,education philosophy,Painting Nationalization.With reference of his personal essay and writings,this thesis makes use of Iconological and Comparative Research to appreciate forms,lines,colors,textures,skills,briefness and balance inside Su Tianci's oil paintings,contrasting with Chinese and foreign painters' articles,to precisely and comprehensively present Su Tianci's artistic style and technique.Through this we'll be able to apprehend Su Tianci further,and provide more perspectives and possibility to continue study,then to make promotion for Chinese modern painting.
