| The faculty development is becoming an important issue in higher education research.Interdisciplinary teaching is also an important measure in current higher education reform and it requires interdisciplinary teaching team.Various interactions within the team must become important factors influencing faculty development.Therefore,it is of great importance in the theory and practice to study faculty development in interdisciplinary teaching team,to reveal the social process of faculty development and to establish the theoretical model.This study is mainly to construct theory,so the choice of grounded-theory research method is more appropriate.At the beginning of the study,there was no specific research problem,only the research direction.Research problems became gradually clear with the data acquisition.To find the first sample I use the purposive sampling.After the first phase of access to information,I use the micro-analysis method to analysis the data,and then deal with other data step by step.According to the abstract concept to continue to find samples,the data analysis,and constantly integrate the concept map,and finally found the "faculty development:coordinating a variety of relationships" as the core category.For this study,the main practice of improving reliability is to constantly reflect on the relationship between data,methods and conclusions,and improve the validity of the main practice is the triangular test,to extend participation and so on.In the study,I strictly adhere to the qualitative research ethics.The emergence of interdisciplinary teaching team is the historical product of the development of higher education,which is the result of teacher’s spontaneous change.When this teaching team is produced,the first problem it faces is to seek the legitimacy status of the team itself.Team leader can not be replaced especially in the stage of team founded.Like-minded people in order to change the status in higher education made a choice to construct the interdisciplinary teaching team.A teaching team’s teaching vision determines the direction of the team,which is an important factor affecting faculty development.In Pierre Bourdieu’ opinion,the university itself is a system which recycle and reproduce the power and scientific research,administration,faculty,students all involve in.Jurgen Habermas argues that universities also need to connect with external societies,and that the provision of services to society is a specific path of communication.All these factors constitute a complex environment.On the basis of the legitimacy status of the interdisciplinary team,the team and the team members need to change roles,learn to coordinate teaching and research,teaching and service,academic and administrative,teachers and students and other relationships.This process is both to create the environment for the team and the development of faculty themselves.Interdisciplinary teaching team in the university is not a formal organization,in which teachers are from the university faculty,therefore,the identity of teachers is more prominent than other organizations.It is the impact of deep-seated factors influencing faculty development.Before the teaching,faculty in the interdisciplinary teaching team has already had their own understanding about teaching and a certain teaching concept.When the teacher became a member of the team,in the teaching process cooperation is greatly needed.So the team member will get a certain emotional experience,interdisciplinary teaching team organizational culture and teacher recognition of the work which are the factors that affect the identity of teachers.For the faculty of interdisciplinary teaching team,one identity is as a member of the disciplinary organization,the other as a member of the interdisciplinary teaching team,in fact,is a dual identity.The correct coordination of the relationship between the two Self-identity is the concrete manifestation and important motivation of faculty development.The study finds that there is a basic process in the development of faculties in interdisciplinary teaching teams.The various backgrounds in the development of universities have led to the emergence of interdisciplinary teaching teams.Despite their different patterns,they are faced with how to coordinate various relationships and the result is to promote faculty’s development.The four types of faculty development in the interdisciplinary teaching team are found,so as to construct the most important conceptual framework of this research.Although the formation of interdisciplinary teaching team is based on the consideration of personnel training,but as a new model of university teachers to develop a diversified teacher development pattern,the faculty development has practical significance.The ultimate pursuit of faculty development is to promote talents so that the two are actually unified.The effectiveness of this model of faculty development depends on how to deal with the relationships between teaching,research and service,when the three highly unified,consistent,to maximize the promotion of faculty development.Of course,faculty development is not an independent field,it requires the support of various conditions,including the status of teaching,the cultural innovation,academic freedom,external support and university as a whole change.These are the important guarantee for the faculty development. |
