This article is a study on the calligraphy and painting appreciation activities of ZhanJingfeng,a Huizhou calligrapher,painter,collector and connoisseur of Ming Dynasty.The author firstly discusses the early experiences and the enlightenment ofcalligraphy and painting appreciation of Zhan Jingfeng by clarifying his genealogy and family.Secondly,the value and significance of calligraphy and painting appreciation in thelife of Zhan Jingfeng are revealed through the summary of his imperial examinationexperiences and official career.His appreciation circle,including the collectors,connoisseurs,and calligraphy and painting dealers he used to interact with,is furtheranalyzed to understand the formation of his appreciation view,the main ideas and theevaluation on connoisseurs back then as well as the overall status of the appreciationfield.Finally,the article focuses on the characteristics of Zhan Jingfeng'sidentification principles and methods and the unique value of his appreciation view.An overview on the calligraphy and painting appreciation circle after the passing ofWu School appreciation authority Wen Zhengming and before the rising of SongjiangSchool appreciation authority Dong Qichang in Ming Dynasty is thus well foundedthrough this study.
