Pang Yuanji, a famous Shanghai painting and calligraphy connoisseur living in Late Qing Dynasty, is set as the research object of this paper. With the master line of Pang's identification and collection, some detailed cases are analyzed; through this paper meaningful research is deployed on the identification and collection history of Chinese painting and calligraphy.Pang Yuanji(1864-1949),courtesy title Lai cheng and pen name Xu zhai,was born in Nanxun, Wuxin Zhejiang Province. He was a successful industrialist in Late Qing Dynasty, his achievement in industry contribute to his success in collection financially. The scale and quality of his collection is so excellent that make it unexceeded by others. This article deploy the research from Pang's family backThis article deploy the research from Pang's family background, the biography, the management, the Social contact, the connoisseurship achievement and so on. With academic analysis and research, this article tries to show readers the connoisseur who was of high reputation in his time and can also inspire collectors nowadays.Irstly, this article introduces Pang's family background, the biography and his communication with other connoisseurs around. It prepares for the discussion on Pang's identification and collection. Secondly, this article focuses on Pang's experience on identification and collection, shows readers a clear painting and calligraphy connoisseur and his collections.At the end of this article, the contribution of Pang to the history of painting and calligraphy collection and his identification is discussed. Because the blank of the connoisseurs' history data in Late Qing Dynasty, it is believed that this article can make contributions positively and constructively.
