Sustainable Supply Chain Management(SSCM)has become a backbone to any company that seeks to achieve sustainable goals.Sustainability draws increased Supply Chain Management(SCM)attention. This dissertation analyzes critical barriers to the assessment, evaluation and achieving of sustainable supply chain management, assessed through critical barrier identification and qualitative data analysis. The main aim of this study is to reach maximum advantages and simplify the process for sustainable adoption in industry. An organization's image is no longer based on the old paradigm of being sustainable in its own activities, but instead is associated with a strong cooperation among all supply chain stakeholders, towards a sustainable activity. It is then critical to create new models and tools to account for the three pillars of sustainability:social, economic, and environmental,in a multi-stakeholder chain.Institutional constraints and in developing countries require new feature of supply chain which social, ecological economic and aspects are unified.Sustainable supply chain management discourse has focused on ecological aspects and neglected social issues also the development of robust mechanisms for supply chain performance measurement have been identified as an integral step needed for the transition towards sustainable supply chain systems and a greener global economy. However, measuring the environmental performance of supply chains is a challenging task, due to several factors, such as the lack of standardized methodologies and the inherent multi-criteria nature of the problem. An ever-increasing demand for products and their consumption has put pressure on industrial output and their supply chains, and that demand has resulted in negative impacts on the environment and society. In another point of view increasing rates of pollution and environmental calamities caused by industrial production have urged several researchers and industry experts to work on Sustainable Production and Consumption issues within the context of Sustainable Supply Chain Management.A significant disconnect between supply chain executives and midlevel management.Sustainability is on the executive agenda for these years and now one of the fastest growing Supply Chain Management(SCM)trend. The fact that so many companies are struggling, however, does provide an opportunity for those willing to take a more deliberate and focused approach. After all, operations professionals do see value in pursuing sustainability. There is an increasing role for organizations to minimize impacts on the environment by reducing packaging and waste, assessing vendors on the environmental performance, developing environmental friendly products, and reducing carbon emissions when goods are produced and shipped. One of the best and most effective ways to achieve this objective is by integrating the traditional supply chain practices with environmental friendly practices, which results in a novel concept named Green Supply Chain Management. In the other side,in order to survive for both reducing the costs and maintaining good environment, green supply chain management has emerged as an approach for organizations to balance these competitive requirements.Green Supply Chain Management(GSCM)can be defined as,"incorporating environmental thinking into supply chain management, including product design, material sourcing and selection, manufacturing practices, delivery of the final products to the consumers, and end-of-life management of the product after its intended life. Also defined green supply chain as "the expansion of traditional supply chain to include activities to reduce waste of resources and negative environmental effects of a product throughout its entire life cycle, from extraction of raw materials to final utilization and disposal.GSCM is an integration of natural environmental worries into supply chain management by implementing various green practices like Life Cycle Analysis(LCA),green design, green purchasing,3Rs(Recycling,Reuse,and Remanufacturing),environmental technologies, green logistics, and collaborative practices with suppliers, distributors, and customers.Through advantage of Green Supply Chain Management practice, firms can select from a wide variety of suppliers and leverage resources to eliminate the environmental impacts of supply chain activities. An increasing awareness of environmental protection the world, has led to an overwhelming response to a green trend in conservation of natural resources and protection of the environment, thereby exerting pressure on industries operating in across the globe. There are various factors associated with incorporation of the green initiatives in supply chain management. It will be useful for industries to know those factors to increase their economic-environmental performances. The industries are still struggling to understand the way for effective implementation of this concept in their respective areas. In that way, this study aims to evaluate the factors related to the successful implementation of Green Supply Chain Management from the industry context. The present paper aims to build a structural model for analyzing the interrelationships among factors relevant to Green Supply Chain Management adoption.Improvement in the environmental performance of an organization depends to a large extent on the environmental performance of its suppliers as they inherit the waste in their downstream supply chain. The main contributions of this dissertation are as follows:(1)A conceptual model ISM is constructed to identify the challenges in the SSCM(Sustainable Supply Chain Management)in industry to reach maximum advantages and simplify the process for sustainable adoption.Sustainability introduced based on three main factors social, economic and environment, this research is motived by the desire to study to understanding and categorize effective barriers to reach sustainable goals.Considering with existing proposals in literature about SSCM implementation is centered on adopt sustainable practices in different industry. However, many countries in west of Asia, like as Iran, facing to lack the basic facilities to measure/find out the barriers or drivers to evaluate suitable practices in special industry. The conceptual model identifies all challenges in implementing the SSCM in especial industry in Iran and proposed as a viable solution to address all recognized challenges. The extensive review of existing literature also helps identify the effective research methodologies in the form of extensive questionnaire and interviews to evaluate the barriers for the adoption of SSCM in industries.(2)After a carful comparison and investigation in methodology study, author recognized the barriers in sustainability. The statistically evaluate and categorize shows, because of the numbers of barriers,it is impossible to eradicate all kinds of barriers;industries need to know the most influential barrier to get more advantage.Firstly, with the assist of practitioners and experts highlight the various barriers and key factors to find of effective items in SSCM related to Iran context.Secondly, this model determine the relationship between the barriers and to identify the most influential barriers for the implementation of SSCM from the recommended barrier list.Furthermore, the model also captures the effect summarizes the barrier analysis and categories several influential barriers with the help of ISM and MICMAC approach. The hierarchical models as developed in this study could assist experts to comprehend various barriers and help them towards effective utilization of SSCM.(3)This dissertation also developed a proposed model based on the findings, evaluate and categorize pressure/drivers to adopt sustainable practices in Iran. This model will help in elaborating the deep insight to understand the phenomenon. The proposed model is cost efficient and will help policy makers in taking effective measures for the successful implementation SSCM within a limited budget. In this study with help of ISM and MICMAC models, author analyzed different barriers to understudying the relationships of 15 final list barriers in the adoption of SSCM.
