Study On Influential Factors And Their Mechanism Of Action On Corporate Environmental Behavior

The problem of ecological environment is becoming more and more serious in China's economic development,among which the pollution behavior of enterprises is the main reason;therefore,it is of great importance to study the environmental behavior of enterprises.The current literature mainly studies corporate environmental behavior(CEB)from external factors,but there are still some deficiencies in the study of the internal factors.In this regard,from the perspective of stakeholders,based on the investigation data of paper-making enterprises and proposing the influential factors from the perspective of managerial perception,this dissertation refines the key factors,analyzes the relationship among the factors and their mechanism on corporate environmental behavior,and makes comprehensive analysis of the effects of internal and external factors on corporate environmental behavior and put forward some relevant strategies.This study provides a theoretical basis for the promotion of energy-saving and emission reduction practices of enterprises and scientific development of energy-saving emission and reduction policies,and provides a theoretical supplement in this field.According to the technical route which contains theoretical basis,qualitative research,quantitative test,model modification,conclusion analysis and policy suggestion,this paper studies CEB and its driving mechanism in China,in order to mine the influential factors of CEB,identify the key influential factors and clarify the relationship among the key factors and their mechanism of action on CEB.Firstly,based on the literature review,the development stage and concept of CEB are defined,and the influential factors of CEB from the perspectives of external,internal and comprehensive factors are summarized.Secondly,on the basis of the government regulation theory,stakeholder theory and environmental public participation theory,this paper makes a theoretical analysis on the influential factors of CEB,which includes making the mathematical model deduction on the action mechanism of various factors on CEB and constructing a principal-agent model on the comprehensive effects of various factors.Thirdly,using ground theory and in-depth interview data of paper-making enterprises,this paper refines key influential factors and builds the comprehensive theoretical model of the driving mechanism of CEB.Fourthly,on the basis of the above mathematical model analysis and qualitative research,this paper designs the questionnaire to investigate the environmental behavior of Chinese paper-making enterprises,acquires the first hand data on the influential factors of CEB through the investigation activities on the paper-making enterprises across the country and eastern provinces and makes a descriptive statistical analysis on these data.Fifthly,in the section of quantitative test and model modification,this paper uses the factor analysis and the multivariate linear analysis to identify the key factors of CEB,and on the basis of the above analysis,the structural equation model is employed to explore the action mechanism of the key factors on CEB.Lastly,combining the results from the qualitative and quantitative analysis,this paper puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions to promote the Chinese paper making enterprises to actively implement environmental behavior,and the major research contents and innovative points are as follows:?.The concept and category of CEB are defined.Based on the literature review,CEB is defined as the behavior that,on the premise of following the national industrial development plan,forming the idea of green development in the whole process of the enterprise production and management such as production,management,technology development,human resources training,investment,and management participation and comprehensively applying the means of management,technology,human resources and investment,enterprises choose consciously to implement a series of comprehensive behavior and practices of energy saving and emission reduction from the shallower to the deeper level in order to deal with the pressure from the government,the social level,the economic level and the enterprise internal environment level.For the first time,this paper divides CEB into defensive CEB,adaptive CEB and active CEB.?.The theoretical analysis of the factors affecting CEB On the basis of reviewing the main theory about the influential factors of CEB(stakeholder theory,government regulation theory and environmental public participation theory),this paper firstly employs the environmental economics theory and the mathematical model deduction to propose the microeconomic model considering the single factor(considering three factors including the industrial market pressure,the government environmental regulation pressure and the social pressure).Then this paper uses the game theory and the principal-agent theory to propose a principal-agent model considering the comprehensive effects of various factors on CEB,and puts forward the relevant proposition and the preliminary theoretical hypothesis as the foundation for the following empirical test.?.Qualitative research of driving mechanism of CEB Based on the ground theory,this paper conducts open-coding,axial-coding and selective-coding in turn for in-depth interview data of 15 representative paper industry insiders and experts.On this basis,the major influential factors and its action mechanism have been clarified,and the comprehensive theoretical model of driving mechanism of CEB has been constructed.And this theoretical model includes 4 main categories(the government pressure,the social pressure,the economic pressure and the internal pressure)and 10 typical relationship structure.This paper makes an in-depth explanation of the internal mechanism of this theoretical model and puts forward the relevant theoretical hypothesis.This part fills the theoretical gap in this field,and has a certain innovation in the perspective of research.?.Quantitative test of the driving mechanism of CEB.On the basis of the sample investigation data on paper making enterprises across the country,this paper employs the factor analysis and the multivariate linear analysis to identify the key factors of the environmental behavior of the paper making enterprises,then uses the structural equation model to make a comprehensive test on the theoretical model of the driving mechanism of CEB,which is an innovation in application,and has certain guidance and reference for similar research.The results show that:(1)Guidance on environmental access of the paper-making industry,provisions of comprehensive remediation on enterprises violating environmental laws,provisions of merger and reorganization,provisions of pollution prevention on “the Three Waste”,collection of sewage charges,environmental complaints from the community,environmental letters and visits from the community,environmental letters and visits from the environmental organizations,environmental complaints from the environmental organizations,the effects of consumers' environmental demand on the launch of new products by enterprises,consumers' green consumption tendency,customer concerns on corporate environmental behavior,the role of fulfilling the environmental responsibility in improving the corporate image,the role of fulfilling the environmental responsibility in increasing the profits of enterprises,the role of shareholders,the education level of the staff,the environmental awareness of the staff and the top management,the frequency of the top management to communicate with the environmental protection department of the government,and the top management's emphasis on environmental issues make up the 20 key factors affecting the environmental behavior of paper-making enterprises.(2)In the direct action path,the economic pressure is the most important factor driving the environmental behavior of papermaking enterprises(including defensive,adaptive and positive),the internal pressure is second important factor driving the environmental behavior of papermaking enterprises except for adaptive environmental behavior,and the driving effect of the government pressure on CEB is significantly weaker than that of the economic pressure and internal pressure except for adaptive environmental behavior,the driving role of the social pressure on CEB is not significant;while in the indirect action path,the government pressure has an indirect influence on CEB through the economic pressure,the social pressure and the internal pressure,social pressure has an indirect effect on CEB through the economic pressure and the internal pressure.And the economic pressure has an indirect impact on CEB through the internal pressure.This paper puts forward the countermeasures and suggestions promoting enterprises to actively implement the environmental behavior from the 4 perspectives.
