Research On Architecture History Of Labrang Monastery

Labrang Monastery is one of the six main monasteries of the Gelug Sect of the Tibetan Buddhism,the architectural style of which is deeply influenced by the Gelug Sect of the Tibetan Buddhism.The architecture of the temple is a typical representative of the mature period of Tibetan Buddhism.Since the location of Labrang Monastery is the multicultural intersection of Han,Tibetan,and Mongolian nationalities,in history,it was a place which different political forces had fought for.Due to the complicated geopolitical and multicultural influence,the architecture of the temple shows unique morphological characteristics.The aim of the current thesis is to study the architecture history and the architectue morphology of Labrang Monastery,in order to point out the main factors which affect the architectural development of Labrang Monastery as well as to put forward the construction ideas of the temple.The contents of the thesis are the following two aspects:The first aspect is to study the architecture history of Labrang Monastery.Combing the history of Tibetan Buddhism culture and architectural development,the main stage of Tibetan Buddhism conclude introduction and imitation of outside architectural prototype and localization development of Tibetan Buddhism,Gelug Sect of the Tibetan Buddhism has significant influenced on the monastery management system and architecture form of Labrang Monastery(Chapter 2).Based on analyzing the natural and humanistic background of Labrang Monastery,as well as combining of the literature research and field research,the history of the Buddhist architectural construction of Labrang Monastery is divided into three periods: start-up period,forming period,recession period.Besides,summarize the major events,important living Buddha and architecture construction activities of each stage(Chapter 3).The second aspect is the study of the layout features of architechture groups,characteristics of important single buildings.By the macro point of view,this paper try to study the site selection and the layout and planning of Labrang Monastery.It has summarized the relationship between location of the temple and the temple’s surrounding environment and villages.The functional structure and road structure of the temple are also be studied,as well as the characteristics of the temple planning layout.By the middlescopic point of view,the paper aims to analyse the layout characteristics of the architecture groups in Labrang Monastery.It includes the spatial organizition principles of architecture groups,the basic layout pattern of architectural groups and the artistic characteristics of the architecture groups(Chapter 4).By the micro point of view,this paper discusses the history of the architecture construction of the Hall building,the Fodian building,and the Bursa building,and chose Kalachakra Dratsang,Hall of Maitreya,and Ladrang of the Jamyang as examples to study.Based on the above discussion,this research points out the single building layout features of Labrang Monastery from the achitectural space,the architectural fa?ade,the architectural rating,the architectural decoration etc.,several aspects.(Chapter 5 and Chapter 6);The third aspect is the research on the construction ideas of Labrang Monastery.According to the all above researches,it shows out the main influencing factors of the architecture development of Labrang Monastery,the site selection and the construction principles of Labrang Monastery,as well as the ideology and culture behind the architecture form,which is the construction ideas of Labrang Monastery.The constrction ideas is consisted of Buddhism cosmology,Buddihist architecture aesthetic image,and architectural ecology ethics(Chapter 7).
