Globalization has led to the development of multiculturalism and formed a new round of integration and dialogue between Chinese and Western gardens.Cross-cultural communication between Chinese and Western gardens have entered a new stage,and the balance of dialogue and cooperation between them has become more and more significant.In the process of exploring,however,the design of Chinese modern gardens is lack of cultural self-confidence,blindly westernization and other issues.The paper analyzes the integration patterns of Chinese and Western gardens when bringing in exotic cultures from 17th to early 20th century,sums up the acculturation strategies with integrated gardens for the design of Chinese modern gardens to learning exotic cultures.Firstly,the paper brings in the acculturation theory and arranges the history and backgrounds of gardens from 17th to early 20th century.Secondly,under the acculturation,it constructs a pattern system.Thirdly,based on the three-position theory to analyze the gardening factors of patterns.Fourthly,based on the pattern complexity to choose the examples of Prince Gung's Mansion and Cassan Park,the paper analyzes its layout principle,multiple elements combination in tour lines,layouts and gardening spaces and summarizes the similarities and differences.Finally,based on the pattern relationship and varied methods of gardens with integrated styles,it proposes strategies of macro and micro acculturation.Based on the research methods of interdisciplinary and acculturation theory,the paper uses some subjects of landscape,anthropology,art,architecture.The three-position theory uses the graphical analysis and summarizing the form patterns of the Chinese integrated with Western gardens' elements.The cases method is based on documents to compare both representative Chinese and Western gardens.The research method from an dynamic perspective to analyzing the integration patterns,that the study is built on a more detail and hierarchical methods systems.The result show that the gardens with Chinese and Western styles and features from 17th to early 20th have unique artistic connotation and aesthetic value.In the spirit level,the three-position theory reflects the integrated process and degree of the gardens cultures;at the physical level,Chinese and Western gardens integrated exotic forms to use native methods and with natively form design of exotic elements.The macro and micro acculturation strategies of the integrated gardens are upholding open attitude,following the principles of combining body and use and applying Eclecticism.
