The research in the terminal effect of small arms has become a hot topic for current national defense workers in recent years,so there is an important significance for related technology research in the field of small arms.The paper is aimed at related research in the typical killing effect of small arms.Detailed design,calculation and analysis for the selection of experimental materials,the construction of the test system and the image processing method of cavity were carried out.The typical kill element impact,the development law of pressure wave in armor(un)covered ballistic gelatin;the evolution regularity of temporary cavity when typical kill element penetrating gelatin;the internal pressure,acceleration characteristics and change rules of armor covered biological target were experimented and studied in this paper,which may provide some technical foundation for the killing mechanism of small arms.The main work and research results in this paper are as follows:According to the physical parameters of killing effect including the speed before and after target,the pressure in the gelatin and the volume of temporary cavity,the integrated test system has been constructed,the detailed system composition and the equipment technical indicators have been introduced.Test methods of the pressure wave in the gelatin have been studied,and some treatment methods of sensor embedded and comparative analysis have also been done in this paper.The measurement method of characteristic parameters of killing effect,the high-speed photography and layout method of digital pulse X-ray machine,and the orthogonal shooting measurement have been studied.The uncertainty of amplitude and speed of pressure wave was evaluated.Based on the detailed analysis the features of the temporary cavity image when kill element penetrating gelatin by high-speed photography system,the processing method was studied.According to comparative analysis of the gray linear transformation,piecewise linear gray level transformation,nonlinear transformation and gray scale based on index of several typical gray level transform algorithm,the best effect of transform algorithm was determined.By contrast analyzing the commonly used filter algorithm,the spatial and temporal filtering algorithm,the method which can protect the image contour line details was finally chosen.According to the comparison and analysis of the basic global gray-level threshold segmentation,histogram threshold of bimodal method,maximum entropy threshold segmentation method and Otsu threshold segmentation method,the clear and continuous approach of the profile of the cavity has been obtained.By contrast analyzing of the commonly used edge detection algorithm and M-S simplified model based on the edge of the level set algorithm,accurately extracting the algorithm of the profile of the cavity has been obtained.Based on the above methods,the damage parameters of gelatin target:penetrating velocity of kill element,turning angle and the cavities’ volume have been solved and the measurement uncertainty is evaluated.The experiments of the three typical kill element including 4.8 mm steel ball,9 mm pistol cartridge and 5.56mm rifle bullet penetrating gelatin have been carried out to study the characteristics of pressure wave,the cause of formation of peak value and the propagation velocity for pressure wave were analyzed.Through contrast analyzing the characteristics of the pressure wave when the multiple kill element penetrating gelatin,the reason of the difference of pressure wave was found out.Experiments for 5.56 mm and7.62 mm rifle bullet impacting armor covered ballistic gelatin have been carried out to study the characteristics of pressure wave.Based on the processing and analyzing the experimental data,an empirical model of pressure wave propagation with/without protection was obtained.The experiments of the three typical kill element including 4.8 mm steel ball,9 mm pistol cartridge and 5.56mm rifle bullet have been carried out to study the change law of temporary cavity,the basic characteristics and forming reason of the temporary cavity were analyzed.The cause of the difference of temporary cavity between different kill element was found out.Based on the processing and analyzing for the experimental data,an empirical model of the changing diameter of temporary cavity was obtained.By fixing up pressure and acceleration sensors in armor covered biological targets,multiple physical measurement systems were established.The experiments for the damageable parts in the head and chest of armor covered biological targets by 9mm pistol cartridge.The pressure and acceleration measurements in biological targets were carried out,which will be helpful for revealing the characteristics and changing rule of pressure and acceleration.
