The High Intensity Heavy-ion Accelerator Facility(HIAF)is one of the major national scientific engineering projects in the 12 th five-year plan proposed by the Institute of Modern Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences.The Kicker power supply is one of the key devices to achieve fast extraction and injection for the HIAF.The main function of the Kicker power supply is to provide current pulse of approximate rectangular wave for the Kicker magnet to complete the beam switching between different tracks.For the expected of high beam intensity in the HIAF,a fast extraction towards a beam dump is demand for emergency case in order to protect the devices.Therefore,a bipolar Kicker power supply is required to extract bunched beams to the regular beam-line and the beam dump.Besides,the flat-top duration of the current should be adjusted continuously for multi-functional physics experiments.The pulse forming network(PFN)or pulse forming line(PFL)with the thyratron was used to produce current pulse of approximate rectangular wave for the Kicker power supply.The thyratron has the advantages of high peak anode voltage and large peak anode current,while it also has some disadvantages,such as no turned-off capability,low operational frequency and high maintenance difficulty.Therefor,these designs cannot meet the requirements of HIAF-Kicker power supply.The solid-state Marx generator is a circuit that can achieve high voltage pulse output through the low voltage solid-state switch IGBT.It has the advantages of high working frequency,continuous adjustable output waveform,compact structure and good maintainability.The solid-state Marx generator is based on capacitor parallel charging and series discharge,so it is difficult to generate current pulse of approximate rectangular wave.It is well known that the PFN is typically used to generate current pulse of approximate rectangular wave.If the pulse forming network is used instead of the capacitor for the solid-state Marx generator,current pulse of approximate rectangular wave can be obtained on the load.Therefore,the solid-state PFN-Marx generator is employed for the HIAF-Kicker power supply,and a bipolar Kicker power supply principle prototype have been designed and developed.The experimental results show that the principle prototype has the ability to produce a bipolar current,and the polarity can be arbitrarily selected.Besides,the flat-top duration of the current adjusting from 0 to 1.23?s has been accomplished.The output performance of the principle prototype satisfies the design requirements and verifies the feasibility of the design.The design and test of the bipolar Kicker power supply principle prototype have provided the key technology and engineering experience for further research on the HIAF-Kicker power supply.
