The solar thermal industry is an emerging industry that offers products or services that convert solar energy into heat.It belongs to both the new energy industry and the energy-saving and environmental protection industry,which is one of the strategic emerging industries that focus of the national development.Strategic emerging industries are highly innovative and have a leading and exemplary role in the implementation of national innovation-driven strategies.Therefore,summarizing the impact and contribution of innovation in the development of solar thermal industry,revealing the solar thermal industry innovation drive mechanism,and exploring the solar thermal industry innovation drive path have important theoretical and practical significance for leading the healthy and sustainable development of solar thermal industry,offering experiences for other industry's restructuring and upgrading,and promoting the implementation of national innovation-driven strategy.In addition to the first introduction chapter 1 and the conclusions chapter 8,the core contents of the dissertation have a total of five chapters.Chapter 2 is the theoretical basis of this paper.On the basis of systematical combing the theory of technological innovation,the theory of innovation drive and the innovation-driven development of new industry,this dissertation constructs the theoretical analysis framework for the research of solar thermal industry,and lays the theoretical foundation for the follow-up study.Chapter 3 is the realistic basis of this dissertation.It summarizes the phased characteristics of the development process of solar thermal industry,analyzes the influencing factors of solar thermal industry development,and empirical analyzes the contribution of innovation to the development of solar thermal industry,laying the foundation for the follow-up study of this article.The 4,5,6,7 chapters are the theoretical core of this research,reveal the inherent mechanism of innovation-driven development of solar thermal industry,explore the innovation drive path of solar thermal industry development,and evaluate the development performance of solar thermal industry innovation drive.The results of this research reveal that solar thermal industry is a typical industry which is one of the few emerging industries in our country to realize the transformation from factor-driven to innovation-driven.The solar thermal industry's rise,rapid growth,transformation,and upgrading,are all the innovation driven result.Innovation has become the most important internal driving force for sustainable and high-quality development of the solar thermal industry,and its contribution to the development of the industry is far greater than that of labor,capital and other factors.The development path driven by China's solar thermal and thermal industry innovation is different from the "imitation-innovation" path proposed by Kim(1997)when studying the Korean automotive industry,and it is also different from Lee(2011,2017)in studying the steel industry in Japan and South Korea.The "technical leapfrogging-industry catch-up" path proposed at the time is more different from the "OEM-OBM-ODM" path proposed by Hobday(1997)when studying the electronics industry of East Asian emerging economies.China's solar thermal and thermal industry has established a path based on China's national conditions,with Chinese characteristics of independent technological innovation and localized market innovation collaborative development.It mainly manifests in the following aspects: First of all,it has broken the internationally popular solar panel heat collection technology,and then independently developed technological innovations for the glass vacuum tube heat collection technology suitable for China's national conditions,laid the technical foundation for industrial development,and formed an internal drive for industrial development;Secondly,proceeding from China's vast rural market conditions,the market innovation of "surrounding cities in the countryside" has expanded the space for industrial development and formed an important driving force for industrial development.In addition,the institutional innovation promoted by China's powerful government has superimposed organizational innovation,cultural innovation,and management innovation under the background of reform and opening up,and has formed an innovative driving force for the development of the solar thermal industry.Technological innovation improves production efficiency by transforming industrial organizations,innovating production processes,and standardization,and upgrading product structures by developing new products,improving product quality,extending product lines and industrial chains,and gaining high profits by saving production costs and transaction costs.,upgrading the value chain,meeting individual needs,etc to drive the solar thermal industry from rapid expansion to high quality development.The intrinsic mechanism behind the innovation driven development of solar thermal industry with Chinese characteristics lies in: With the entrepreneurial spirit,courage to innovate and start-up private enterprises as the main body,from central to local governments at various levels,various universities and research institutes,industry associations and other intermediary agencies,financial organizations and other multi-agent interaction and contact mechanisms;Focusing on technological innovation,multi-object collaborative innovation mechanisms such as market innovation,institutional innovation,organizational innovation,management innovation,cultural innovation,and financial innovation;national innovation systems,regional innovation systems,and industrial innovation systems are integrated in the development of multi-level systems.China's solar thermal industry has multi-dimensional innovation,interoperability and integration,which has driven the industry's independent leap-forward sustainable development.Both in the long and short term,it has greatly promoted the improvement of industrial development performance.Different from the existing industry catch-up theory of late-developed countries,this study identifies the innovation-driven development path of China's solar thermal industry with Chinese characteristics.It reveals the mechanism of interactive interconnection,collaborative innovation and system integration for innovation-driven industry development.China's solar thermal industry is under the background of increasing global environmental pressure,using technological opportunities and market opportunities based on China's national conditions,and relying on independent innovation to achieve innovation-driven industry development.This shows that in the development process of emerging industries,the late-developed countries can realize the innovation-driven development that is characterized by the opening of the “opportunity window” and their national conditions.This study finds that it is the enrichment and development of the industry catch-up theory and low-carbon innovation theory in late-developed countries.This study reveals the principles of innovation-driven development path and mechanism for China's solar thermal industry.It provides useful inspiration for China's implementation of innovation-driven development strategies and the promotion of strategic emerging industries.
