ObjectivesTo conclude the understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine on allergic rhinitis, the literature research has been done.Which summarized the research progress of allergic rhinitis. What’s more, the different treatment can provide literature support for the choice of treatment in clinic.Select a certain number of allergic rhinitis patients under some conditions for clinical research, then treat them by Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy and conventional acupuncture therapy respectively. And assess the therapeutic effect of two methods of therapy by using the rating scales and indicators of allergic rhinitis.Conventional acupuncture therapy is an effective method for the clinical treatment of allergic rhinitis,by comparing with it,the effects of two therapies in reducing illness and symptoms and signs,as well as improving the quality of life of allergic rhinitis patients can be confirmed.Which can provide objective basis for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of allergic rhinitis.MethodsAccording to the calculation formula of the sample content,120 cases were needed in this study, and then randomly divided into the research group and the control group, each group with 60 cases.A certain number of patients with variant rhinitis were selected according to diagnostic criteria, inclusion criteria, exclusion criteria, and removal criteria. The removal patients done as follows.Filled in the "summary table of clinical trial completion" in the case report form.Withdrawal patients due to adverse reactions filled in the "adverse event/reaction record form" in the case report form; When the patients wanted to finish the treatment, they were treated according to clinical routine treatment, but they were no longer included in the study and without observation and record. The allergic rhinitis patients in research group were treated with the Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy. The acupoints of Dacha,Huozhu,Huolian and Huochuan(both sides)were selected.Located the acupoints by the principles of Dong’s extra-point.After disinfect the skin on the acupoints by 0.5% entoiodine, acupunctured quickly, operated the mild reinforcing-reducing method lightly.Made the needles stay 40 minutes after deqi.Treated once every other day and 10 treatments made up one course. The allergic rhinitis patients in control group were treated with the conventional acupuncture therapy. The acupoints of Yintang(GV29),Yingxiang(LI20),Bitong(EX-HN8),Baihui(GV20),Hegu(LI4)and Fengchi(GB20)were selected. After disinfect the skin on the acupoints by 0.5% entoiodine, acupunctured quickly, operated the mild reinforcing-reducing method lightly.Made the needles stay 40 minutes after deqi.Treated once every other day and 10 treatments made up one course.Foundation treatment.Pharmacotherapy for allergic rhinitis were not allowed during the research, but considering the ethics and the psychological tendency of patients, all the patients in the research were given the same uniform drugs for taking in the onset of symptoms.Claritin was taken 10 mg once,2 times a day.Zyrtec was chosen when Claritin failed,10 mg once a day.The Total Nasal Symptoms Scores(TNSS),visual analogue scale(VAS),Rhinocoujunctivitis Quality of Life Questionaire(RQLQ),and severity of symptoms were used to evaluate the therapeutic effects. These scales and indexes were conducted before and after 10 times of treatment.Evaluated the comprehensive therapeutic effects according to the standards of cure, significant effective, effective and invalid respectively.Recorded the adverse reactions during the treatment, such as needlesickness, sticking needles, bent needles, broken needles, hematoma and other.Recorded the recurrence cases who was once cured, significant effective or effective during three months follow-up.Recorded the information about all the subjects in detail.Used Excel to establish database, and the statistics analysis was done with the SPSS19.0statistical package. All data in the research was two independent samples with complete random design.Recorded the measurement data in x ±s,when itconform to the normal distribution. The measurement data before and after treatment was statistically analyzed by t test of two samples in group or between groups.Counting data, when all frequencies were not less than 5,it was statistically analyzed by chi-square test of the four-grid data. When the frequency was less than 5 and not less than 1,it was statistically analyzed by the Fisher exact probability method with four grid data. The measurement data that did not conform to the normal distribution and the hierarchical data was statistically analyzed by non-parametric test methods.P < 0.05 was found to be statistically significant.Results120 patients were selected under certain standards in this research, among which 60 cases were in Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy group and 60 cases were in conventional acupuncture therapy group. There were no statistically significant difference from the age, sexuality and course,as well as TNSS,VAS,RQLQ and severity of illness before the treatment of the two groups(P > 0.05).Which showed that the two group were comparable in the above indexes. After 10 times of acupuncture treatment, the TNSS,scores of sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, nasal congestion,VAS,RQLQ and severity of illness of two groups compared with the results before treatment, the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).These results of Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy group compared with conventional acupuncture therapy group, the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).It indicated that both Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy and conventional acupuncture therapy could effectively relieve the major symptoms of allergic rhinitis, likesneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, nasal congestion, reduce the severity of illness and pain, improve the quality of life. But the effect is better of Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy. There were 25 cases cured,20 cases significantly effective,12 cases effective and 3 cases invalid in Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy group,so the total effective cases was 57 and the effective rate was95%.There were 13 cases cured,12 cases significantly effective,17 cases effective and 18 cases invalid in conventional acupuncture therapy group,so the total effective cases was 42 and the effective rate was 70%.The differencebetween the rates had statistically significant(P < 0.05).It showed that both the two therapies could achieve great effect when treating allergic rhinitis, but Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy was better. In the process of Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy treatment, one person couldn’t stand the needling sensation, while 2 people having the side effects such as hematoma and fainting on acupuncture during the conventional acupuncture therapy treatment. There was no significant difference(P > 0.05)in the incidence of adverse reactions of two therapies. It manifested that Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy and conventional acupuncture therapy were both safe in treating allergic rhinitis. In the process of three months follow-up,there were 3 people having symptoms recurrence or aggravation in the 57 people who were once cured, significantly effective,or effective by Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy, while there were 11 people in having symptoms recurrence or aggravation in the 42 people in conventional acupuncture therapy group. The difference had statistically significance(P < 0.05).The result indicated that the long-term curative effect of Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy was better.ConclusionsWestern medicine considers that the main pathogenesis of allergic rhinitis are allergens, genetic factors and environmental factors, and the process of the disease is immune response. The major treatment is drug. For severe patients, laser and microwave physical therapy can be used.Traditional Chinese medicine diagnose and therapie allergic rhinitis as “biqiu”.It believes that the etiology and pathogenesis is essential empty and out solid, which is related with lung, spleen and kidney deficiency, such as lung qi weakness with wind, spleen qi deficiency with water and wet attacking nose, kidney yang deficiency lost warming lung.So its principle is warming meridians, benefiting qi and expelling cold.Warm and tonify the yang of lung, spleen and kidney in the ultimate and expedite the qi of nose area on the surface. There are many different therapies for allergic rhinitis, and acupuncture and moxibustion is one of the important methods. The clinical doctors can choose acupuncture, moxibustion, acupoint catgut embedding and bee venom acupuncture according to the specific clinical manifestations of patients. The result showed that Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy could relieve the major symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, nasal congestion and so on,reduce trouble and pain caused by the disease, reduce the severity of disease, improve the quality of life of patients, what’s more, the current rate of adverse reaction and palindromia was low, clinical comprehensive curative effect was satisfied. It could be seen from this,Dong’s extra-point yang-warming acupuncture therapy is effective and safe in treating allergic rhinitis.
