Objective To investigate the characteristics, treatment and prognosis of sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSNHL)in children. Methods 78 children(81 ears)with SSNHL from January,2011 to December,2016 were retrospectively analyzed.78 patients(81 ears)were recruited. There are 40 boys and 38 girls. The range of age is 9-18 years old.The average age was15.69 years old.The patients were divided into 4 types according to their audiometric curve: ascending(27 cases),descending(9 cases),flat(17cases)and profound type(25 cases). These pediatric patients were reviewed to analyzed for clinical characteristics, treatment, prognostic factors using univariate and multivariate logistic analysis. Results The recovery rate of different types were analyzed. The recovery rates of each types were 96.3%(ascending type),76.47%(flat type),52.00%(profound type)and 44.44%(descending type)respectively. The overall recovery rate was 71.79%.There are 14 patients with tinnitus, whose recovery rate is 50%,and 64 patients without tinnitus, whoserecovery rate is 76.56%.The hearings of 14 from 21 children treated with additional intratympanic methylprednisolone as salvage treatment were improved One of four children were performed with postauricular compound betamethasone injection and none of them improved, one of three children recovered slightly with the treatment of intratympanic methylprednisolone plus postauricular betamethasone injection. The multivariate logistic analysis showed that the type of audiometric curve, tinnitus were 2 independent risk factors correlated to therapeutic effect of SSNHL in children. Conclusions The curative effect of SSNHL in children is closely related to the type of audiometric curve and tinnitus. The children with ascending audiometric curve or those with tinnitus have significantly better outcome than that with descending audiometric curve and without tinnitus. Objective: To investigate whether single nucletide polymorphisms in SIK3 which have been shown to be associated with dyslipidemia in previous studies may be associated with sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Methods: Nine hundred-thirty eight patients and 874 healthy controls were recruited in our case-control study, whereby 6 SNPs(rs11216230,rs12225230,rs533556,rs7350481,rs10047459,and rs11216162)in SIK3 were tested using The Sequenom Mass ARRAY system Genotyping Assay. Results:The average age was 44.84±15.77 years old. There were 419 males and 519 females, and the ratio of male to female was 0.81:1.The type of hearing loss is divided into 4 types according to the audiogram, ascending, descending, flat and profound. The recovery rate of different types were analyzed. The recovery rates of each types were60.8%(ascending type),71.43%(descending type),40.00%(profound type)and 35.03%(flat type)respectively. The overall recovery rate was47.97%.There are 865 patients with tinnitus, whose recovery rate is 47.86%,and 284 patients without tinnitus, whose recovery rate is 40.14%.The results showed a significantly higher frequency of SIK3/rs533556CA(P=0.04)and AA(P=0.02)genotypes in SSNHL,and also a significantly higher frequency of SIK3/rs10047459 CT(P=0.04)genotype in SSNHL,however all the P values were higher than 0.05 by Bonferroni correction, which indicated there was no difference between SSNHL and controls. The genotype between the patients with recovery and which with poor outcome was no significance. Conclusion: We didn't find any significantly difference in SIK3 between SSNHL and controls, which indicated the dyslipidemia may not play an important roll in SSNHL.
