Research On Chinese Phonology Of Early-Tang Dynasty

The history of Chinese common language was main content in the historical study of Chinese,although Tang Dynasty was an important stage in the development of Chinese common language,the academic circles lacked the research on the common language of Early Tang Dynasty.This article was in the pursuit of making researches on interrelated questions about Early-Tang Dynasty Chinese,guided by the concept of Chinese literature’ "Keep Elegant and Standard".In order to meet the target,five phonetic notation materials were mainly used:Hanshuyinyi,Xuanyingyinyi,Kuijiyinyi,Lixianyinyi,Wenxuanyinjue.This article also used transliteration and rime materials.There are five Chapters in this article:Chapter Ⅰ"Introduction",not only introduced the research status and shortcomings of Early-Tang Dynasty Chinese,but also provided information about the materials.Chapter Ⅱ "Theory of this article",analyzed the status of Tang Dynasty Chinese by using literature materials,and talked about the concept of Chinese literature’ "Keep Elegant and Standard".ChapterⅢ"The Initial System of Early-Tang Dynasty Chinese",analyzed the the initial system,made some researches on labial,lingual initials and special phonetic notations of initial.ChapterⅣ"The Final and Tone System of Early-Tang Dynasty Chinese",this Chapter researched the separation and reunion of Yun system according to the Sixteen-series order in five phonetic notation materials.Based on the analysis of Yun system,we talked about the problems of Chongniu,medial and special phonetic notations of final,last mentioned the tone system.Chapter Ⅴ"Epilogue",put forward our view on the property of Qieyun system combining with the analysis of the phonetic notation materials.The innovations and conclusions of this article are as follows:Firstly,under the guidance of Chinese literature’"Keep Elegant and Standard",this article talked about the Chinese phenomenons of Early-Tang Dynasty which was seemed as an independent phase by using literature materials,made up the blank of the Early-Tang Dynasty Chinese research.Secondly,this article pointed that the Tang Dynasty had a common language,which lacked of clear and standard pronunciation,neither Changan dialect nor Luoyang dialect was the standard pronunciation,also standard pronunciation was very difficult to transfer and change.Thirdly,because of the difference on the concept of "Keep Elegant and Standard" among the writers,the systems of five phonetic notation materials were not identical.Fourthly,the initial system of five phonetic notation materials and Qieyun were very similar,labiodental had appeared as allophone of labial,the condition was Hekou meidal.Fifthly,the seconed-level nasal finals of Shan-series Kaikou merged was an important phenomenon of Early-Tang Dynasty Chinese;the classification of Zhi(支)Zhi(脂)Zhi(之)changed to be Zhi(支)and Zhi(脂之),but the classification of Zhi(支)Zhi(脂)Zhi(之)was still recognized in literature phonology;the people of the north confused some words’pronunciation ofyu(鱼)and yu(虞)、Zhi(支)and Zhi(脂).Sixthly,there were Chongniu phenomenon in Early-Tang Dynasty Chinese literature materials,the difference between Chongniu words was the medial;seconed-level words had a[-γ-]medial;the labial words could distinguish Kaikou and Hekou.Seventhly,the system of Qieyun was internally consistent,it represented the common language of the early stage of the middle Chinese,also contained the author’s phonetics concept.
