‘JIN SHU YIN YI’, referred to ‘YIN YI’, is a book of explanatory for one of the eight official history books JINSHU which was composed by the author in the Tang dynasty named HECHAO.But there were many people involved in writing JINSHU,and the time span of the materials is long, the source of that is wide. During the WEI and JIN dynasty, Chinese has great change both in spoken language and written language. Maybe, the track of the evolution, including character, pronunciation, vocabulary and other aspects of the language, has left in this book. Therefore, we have to study it from various aspects. Fortunately, some predecessors have done it in the past. However, no one combined the phonetic notation with the explanation together to analyze the value of those Fan Qie. In a word, we should continue to study this book. After reading JINSHU,we referred YINYI and other relevant outcomes to analyze the Fan Qie and the explanation, including statistical data, annotation laws, common errors in the annotation and the great value of YINYI to Chinese dictionary. There are five specific parts—firstly,we introduce some basic information of YINYI, such as, the author of the book, domestic research states or research methods. Secondly, we should discuss the first phonetic notation and answer the following questions:how many notes did HECHAO left, why did he dot down the notesbehind those words, which notes were wrong, and so on. Thirdly, this paper discuss the ‘you yin’ of the book and answer the following questions: how many‘ you yin’ did HECHAO left, why did he dot down the ‘you yin’ behind those words, which ‘you yin’ were wrong, and so on.Then, we analyze the citation and summarize the function of the citation and the errors. The last chapter introduce the value of this book. The second part、third part and forth part discuss the phonetic principles of this book. However, the aim of the fifth part is to analyze the value of YINYI and discuss the function of it on improving the Chinese dictionary. The last four parts are the main body of this article. Many conclusions are illuminating.Through the above research, we can know that the aims of the phonetic notation in YINYI are different. Many of them are marked the popular form of characters or other form of the Chinese characters. Some of the notes which mirrored the language and words of Han dynasty, can help us recognize the change law of language. At the same time, some of the phonetic notations are the ancient pronunciation of the words, we need pay attention to it when we discuss the phonetic system of HECHAO ’s age. In addition, from those ‘you yin’ which the author dotted down to distinguish the function from the first phonetic notation,we can see this book is a special dictionary. In fact, the author only need to mark one pronunciation for those Chinese characters, but he also noted‘you yin’ for some of them. Those ‘you yin’ are used to complement the first phonetic notation or discrimination. Further more, some of those pronunciations are wrong. Those wrong notes also own certain value, but we should pay attention to it during do some research or using those notes to complement the dictionaries. To sum up, we need to pay attention to the value of YINYI.
