The"language-image"integration of literature and graphic arts in Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties means the phenomenon of mutual echoing,imitating,explaining of literary language and graphic symbols in literary and visual artistic practice.The generation and development of "language-image" integration is the result'of multiple factors in the cultural context.The "language-image" integration has different types and diverse modes.All kinds of "language-image" integration mode has its own internal logic.The mode and logic of "language-image" integration had a great impact on the later literary and artistic creation.Basing on the phenomenon of "language-image" integration,this paper is intended to capture its overall historical necessities,truth,influences from the cultural context,Apparent form,integration logic,history impact etc,and strived to form the reasonable framework of the "language-image"integration at the theoretical level.Chapter 1 mainly studies the cultural context that the "language-image" integration of Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties generated.The aesthetic self-consciousness and philosophical speculation of literati were important factors which caused the variation of traditional "language—image" integration at that time.In the aesthetic conscious creative practice,the integration is a way for literati to convey aesthetic emotion.The participation and creativity of the literati changed the structure of traditional"language-image" integration,such as creation subject,creative style and creative purpose,and which promoted the evolution and prosperity of the integration.Affected by the"Words-Meaning" debation,many scholars involved to discuss the ways and means of"language-image" integration.They considered "picture" as the bond of language and visual signs in integration,and affirmed the importance of the integration of language and visual signs.The aesthetic creation and in-depth thinking of literati strengthened the understanding of "language—image" integration,explored new ways of it,and promoted the prosperity and development of the practice.Chapter 2 will focus on the appearances of the "language-image" integration in texts.The "language-image" integration appeared specifically among the different types of text,these texts,including types of "the integration of literature and image",in which literature and image are in the same text as a whole body,types of "the splitting of literature and image",in which literature and image locate different bodies,and types of"the synthesis of literature and image",which literature and image construct a whole body with their own media.in "the integration of literature and image" texts,language and visual signs illuminate and explain each other,forming a integrating mode of mutual influence,interaction and restraint.The calligraphy text of these dynasties especially reflects the form and essence of this mode.in "the splitting of literature and image"texts,language and visual signs imitate each other,forming a mode of mutual reference and penetration.Paintings and literary works of these dynasties strongly reflect the form and essence of this mode,in "the synthesis of literature and image" texts,language and visual signs depend and express each other;therefore,it forms a mode of mutual interpretation and complement.Visual poems of this time centrally manifest the form and essence of this mode.Chapter 3 will mainly concentrate on the internal logic of the "language-image"integration.Each type of it has its own internal logic which is different to others in diverse type of the integration.In the texts of "the integration of literature and image",the image signs highlight the inherent meaning of the language effectively.In the texts of"the splitting of literature and image",the image signs imitate icon to further embody the significance of language.In the texts of "the synthesis of literature and image",image signs generate by the visual arrangement of the language,and yet can reveal the meaning of the language.Orchid Pavilion Preface,the calligraphic works of Wang Xizhi,the picture of Nymph of the Luo River,a painting of Gu Kaizhi,and Su Hui's Xuanji Tu,respectively embody the logic forms of three modes above completely and reflect the inherent nature of the "language-image" integration of Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties.Chapter 4 will mainly explore the history of the subsequent development of the"language-image" integration.The generation and development of the " language-image"integration of Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties reflect the requirement of the age and the tendency of the arts development,and its intrinsic mode and logic gets continuity and development in the successive history of literature and arts,moreover,it made a considerable impact in later literary and artistic creation.As a result of it,literary texts like the Nymph of the Luo River written by Cao Zhi,Ah,homeward bound I go!and Land of Peach Blossoms(plus poem with same title)written by Tao Yuanming and other literary texts prominently reflected the existence and significance of this effect in the later image interpretation.The mirage of Nymph of the Luo River,inner seclusion Complex and ideal society of scholars,these subjects of literature and art world unceasing changed and gradually plumped right in the image interpretation of this"language-image" integration.The conclusion part will focus on the effect of the "language-image" integration in the literary and artistic practice of Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties,and hackle the nature of the integrating phenomenon.The "language-image" integration penetrates in many areas of literary and artistic practice in Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties.It enriches the subject matter of the literary and visual creation,enhances the performance of the language and image symbol,and widened the path of literati personal creation,promotes the prosperity of the literary and visual artistic creation.This phenomenon has changed the traditional status and influence of language and image symbol in the literary and art practice.The image appeared strong performance function in the integration,became an important symbol to highlight the connotation of language and text,depending on its actual pointing function,Language became the main symbol which can represent the meaning of the texts.Language and image symbols appeared the relationship essence of cooperation coexist in the integrational practice.
