Uyghur literature is one of the unique cultural phenomena in Chinese civilization system which diversity in unity,so studying on Uyghur literature,needs to focus on its own characteristics of ethnic literature and culture,and also must seize its intimate connections with whole Chinese civilization/cultural system.Especially in the end of the 19th century and in the early period of the 20th century,the Uyghur society,which been Islamic-centered for a long time,gradually began to change,sharply increasing crisis and contradiction in late Qing dynasty not only contributed to the transition of the society,also greatly promote the transformation of literature.As an effective cultural form of imagining social and historical transition,Uyghur modern novel came to birth in the crisis and recorded the breakdown and collapse which entire Uyghur rural society confronted with,before 1949.This made the native novel full of strong tragic color and confusion,also the figures with struggle and resistance at the miserable fate,let the troubled rural society holds some weak and long hope.The hope of social transformation of Uyghur rural society came from the establishment of new China.As a brand new start,a multi-ethnic unified republic not only abolished the shackles of ethnic oppression and class exploitation before the liberation,but also deconstructed and reconstructed the entire Uyghur traditional society by means of "class discourse",and also overcame the identity crisis arose between stat and the civil,local and masses,created a new organized social form.In this social form,Uyghur local novels became one of the "reform" device of Socialism,and participated in the process of national construction and the social reform,described the new changes happened in Uyghur rural area.Praising the new people,writing the new lifestyle,presenting the new social relations became the most prominent features of Uyghur local novels during this period.But the "class discourse" has not completely reformed the Uyghur rural society.The historical narrative of "new period" based on the new modern vision,which wish to overcome the crisis of Socialism through the way of modernization,so the optimistic imagine of "modernization" widely accepted as a best way to heal the scars left over from history.Scar Literature,Reflective Literature and Reform literature,initially emerged in very beginning of "new period literature",deeply rethink about history,and also holds full of hope for the future.New Period Literature which based on the optimistic imagination of "modernization" had lack of critic view on the negative consequences of " modernization ",also had not expected the effect of Reform and Opening Up Policy which combined with secularization,marketization and globalization etc." which has created a new space full of opportunities for development,and on the other side has formed a huge pressure to the traditional rural society.In the new situation,Uyghur rural society confronted another transition,cultural anxiety and identity crisis strengthened again.In this crisis and opportunity coexisted circumstances,Uyghur local novels which originally shared optimistic imagination with "new period literature" quickly transferred from "passion" to "critic",regressed from "history" to "reality",from"national dimension" gradually to "ethnic dimension",shaping a unique Cultural Root phenomenon.Many writers attempted to refresh the cultural memory by means of fables,tales,symbols,signs,and reactivate the ethnic identity.This seemingly"looking back" tendency,appeared in the intersection of 1980 and 1990,is actually the cultural rebirth activity that starting point and aim is "looking forward",of course,this logic essentially corresponds to strong cultural anxiety and identity crisis.This paper would make "historical" analysis and "cultural" interpretation on the development and transferring process of Uyghur local novels in the historical stage mentioned above,and not only would trace its evolution process,but also make historical and real reflection about literal imagination through intensive reading.This paper would put forward that although significant and profound changes have taken place from form to content in Uyghur local novels,from the birth up to now,but it presents a consistent cultural imagination in different ways,also implied the reflection and imagination of Uyghur intellectuals on the future development of local society,that is to say,they are trying to find a different modernization way for a different religious and cultural ethnic group in the secularized modernization process of multi-ethnic unified country.This significant problem forms the footstone of cultural imagination of Uyghur local novels,and also is the key and difficult point in this paper.
