A Study On Tran Thai Tong’s Buddhist Thoughts

Emperor Tran Thai Tong was the founding Emperor of the Tran Dynasty in Vietnam,he was not only considered as a "tolerant and magnanimous" monarch,but also a famous Buddhist thinker in the thirteenth century in Vietnam.This dissertation studies on Tran Thai Tong’s work "The Record Essays of Emptiness:as the main text,and conducts comprehensively and systematically in-depth discussed on the Tran Thai Tong’s Buddhist thoughts research,combing and summarizing the main contents of his Buddhist thoughts.In addition,to the introduction and conclusion,this dissertation is divided into four chapters,and two appendices are listed at the end.After an overview of Tran Thai Tong’s era,life,buddhist writings,and the research dynamics of Tran Thai Tong’s Buddhist thoughts at home and abroad,from three perspectives:substance,characteristic,and function elaborates Tran Thai Tong’s thoughts on "Purity and perfection wisdom of the Ontology of Mind Treatise",on the basis of this further discusses about his "Beyond Existence and Non-Existence"Prajna thoughts,and expounds his "Delighted speak Dharma to the relief of all sentient beings" of Buddhist thoughts of Language,describes his Emancipation thoughts of"Engaged in the world of human beings",summarizes the main characteristics of Tran Thai Tong’s Buddhist thoughts,and considers that Tran Thai Tong’s Buddhist thoughts have a high of systematic and theoretical tendency,the integration of Zen and Canonical Teachings are unified and harmonious,and they are perfect and fused together.In the aspects of the Ontology of Mind,Prajna,Language,and Emancipation,Tran Thai Tong’s Buddhist thoughts are achieving a very high level,at that time it had a profound influence impact on to govern the country and on the deal with people’s affairs.It also had a wide range of influence impact on the theory and practice of the later Vietnamese Buddhism,especially the Vietnamese Truc Lam Zen sect.It is also indispensable to understand and grasp the Vietnamese Buddhism thoughts and the exchanges Buddhism thoughts between China and Vietnam in the overall appearance important segment.This dissertation will further clarify the significance of Tran Thai Tong’s Buddhist thoughts in the historical positioning of Vietnamese Buddhism and its specific role in the transition of Buddhism in Vietnam between the Ly and the Tran Dynasties.This dissertation considers that Tran Thai Tong’s philosophical Buddhist thoughts not only is a product of the historical era,but also affected and changed the era in which he lived.Tran Thai Tong’s Buddhist thoughts and his governance,his deal with people’s affairs are influential and closely linked,to this day,still have important value.It is religious and also life.
