A Language Study On "The Legendary Of Waking Marriage" From Perspective Of Sociolinguistics

As a hundred-chapter masterpiece,"The Legendary of Waking Marriage" was completed in a critical period of transformation from Modern Chinese to Contemporary Chinese,it inherited "Jin Ping Mei" and enlighted "Hong Lou Meng",shouldered the heavy responsibility of the development of vernacular novel,it has an important position in the history of vernacular novel.As far as literature concerned,it may difficult to match "Hong Lou Meng",but its value lies in that it used a lot of dialect and realistic depiction in writing,which reflects the general visage and social characteristics of the oral language in Shandong at that time.Whether it is used for the study of dialect or for the study of the society at that time,it has important value for the researchers in the field of linguistics corpus and historical materials,it is a rich ore for the researches of Language and society of Ming and Qing Dynasties.As a colloquial Novels which reflected the social at that time,"The Legendary" aligned well with sociolinguistics theory genetically.It is in accordance with linguistic theory that making a specific research of the novel by the sociolinguistics theory.Although many scholars take a long time to to research the novel,there is still no a specific research under the theory of sociolinguistics.Our research is mainly based on lexicon of "The Legendary" and surveys the Shandong dialect in Ming and Qing dynasties under the Perspective of sociolinguistics.We are going to make a specific research under the sociolinguistics theory,and study the language usage situation by analyses of the mutually relation between th e language and society.Our research mainly focuses on the following contents:In the introduction part,we mainly introduce studies of "The Legendary"by all previous dynasties scholars,and briefly introduce the research results of the novel' s author?version and linguistic,and then present the value and method of our research.In the body chapter,we discuss features of "The Legendary" about its times,regional,and social.In the first section we investigation on characteristic of its time,and then give some examples of Chinese characters which are avoided as a taboo.and then we provide some examples of words and grammar to identify its feature of that time.In the second section we investigation on regional characteristic of its dialect vocabulary,place names,diet words and cloth words.In the third section we investigation on the society features of "The Legendary" about its folk culture words,religious beliefs,proverbs and abusive language.Through a variety of language vocabulary "The Legendary" opens a window for us to understand the language application of that time.In the next chapter we mainly discuss the covariant phenomenon of the language and classes,analyzed the different features of different classes in the language application.In the first section,we first analyze the background of the time and the social class levels of that time,and give a brief analysis of the most representative official system.In section two,we discuss covariant phenomenon between language and social strata in aspects of vocabulary and grammar.Different social classes are not the same in selection for vocabulary and sentence structure,and there are also differences in the use of language.In section three,we analysis the variables which lead to the non-synchronous between the class and the standard form of class language.Under the synchronization theory we have discussed some inconsistencies facts in the novel.In the chapter of language and gender,we start from the gender variation of language,analyze the covariant conditions between different sexual.In the first section,we first analyzed the concept of what is co-variation between language and gender,and then analyzes the varied factors for language and gender,and take the main characters"Su-jie" as an example,analyzes her typical speech.In section second,we analyzed the whole society of women education status,and discusses the characteristics of the language of the majority of women.Finally,we analyzed the swearwords which closely related to gender discrimination.In the chapter of language and industry,we investigate the covariant relationship between language and industries in "The Legendary".The industry factors often affect the language application,and they have become a language symbol of their occupation identity.In the first section,we firstly analyzed the concept of what is language and industry co-variation,then discussed the jargon and industry division since the Ming and Qing Dynasties.In section second,we analyze the situation of division of labor in the whole society,and divide it into five categories,administration,industry and commerce,religion,traditional opera and imperial examination,describe its outline and their vocabularies.In the last chapter,we investigate the relationship between language and appellation in "The Legendary".Appellation take its name because of relatives or other relationship such as social identity,status,power,occupation and gender differences etc.it is closely linked with social linguistics.We all take all kinds of appellation as the research objects in "The Legendary",and divide them into four categories,which are relatives appellation,official title,gender appellation and curse.From the perspective of Chinese history,we analysis its original names and changes,with the statistical analysis method,we confirm its mainly forms in the historical period,finally analyzes the social and cultural factors behind them.Generally speaking,the research on "The Legendary" is far behind from the level of the novels of "A dream of Red Mansions" or "Jin Ping Mei",there is still a large amount of basic research work to be done.It is needed to try harder to analyze and to be used.This study is a cross disciplinary type,embodies the combination of Chinese language history theory and social linguistics theory;Our material is historical,it is based on "The Legendary" mostly and combined with other Chinese materials in the Ming and Qing Dynasties;The perspective is a full range,both micro and macro overview.The research method is the combination of dynamic and static,we analysis language ontology and its rheology,sum up its overall appearance,explore its cultural phenomenons and causes.We look forward to the research method of the thesis can give people inspiration,the research results can help people understand some features of modern Chinese,and can give linguistic evidence materials for cultural linguistics,social linguistics and folklore interdisciplinary.
