In the age of globalization,the cross-border use of languages is very common.Language is not only a tool for information exchange,but also a kind of resource,which extended from a strategic height by many countries.Under the theme of peace and development in modern world,language promotion is by no means the geographical promotion in force,but to promote its own values in the way of education,to promote international understanding,and to enhance national power.Therefore,the way of spread a nation's values from the language promotion aspect has been thought by many countries over the years.It is commonly believed that,the countries which set language promotion institutions have some features: a certain amount of population size,a certain degree of economic scale,some culture deposits(“culture legacy”)that attracting attention from other countries worldwide,and also a wider range of language use by many people aroud the modern world.Although the initiating time is different,both China and the United States have implemented their own language promotion strategies,which lasting from the beginning until today.There is no doubt that the problems and experience hinding behind these strategies are worth further studying.Based on an international strategic perspective,this dissertation makes a comparative study on the language promotion strategy of China and United States.From the the aspect of strategy enviroment,Chinese and English languages are at the same level,which means both of them are actually a kind of global language which been used beyond national borders and living communities,and also been widely used in human's life nowadays.From the aspect of strategy composition,due to the different historical experience of two countries,China focuses on the direct display of its values,while the United States comparatively prefer to show values in an indirectly way.After studying the educational cooperation programs between China and United States,it is found the language promotion will derive a kind of intervention phenomenon in the process of implementation.Although United States has partially intervened in China's language promotion strategy,China can also make use of the social network for the language promotion in United States.In general,China's language promotion strategy is not futile,but could be better optimized and developed in the future.The best way to aquire cultural values from a language is the leaner immerse her/himself into a language capsule.Therefore,the author suggests that in the future strategic development,China could appropriately increase the scale of international exchange programs,partially switch the platform from overseas language-teaching institutes into domestic universitis,actively absorb(meaning "recruit" and "enroll")more international students.This could be an effective way to improve China's soft power in the future.
